I thought there was a new rule about having only 2 tracks on a uk standard release cd single now?
Krafty - 5 track CD?

By the looks of it, it is the advanced promo sent to record stores, thus no restriction to number of tracks. I used to work in record shop but unfortunately it closed down so no more free promos for me. ![]()
The rules is a maximim of 3 (a 4th track is allowed only if it is in video format), however they are ripping people off now by often releasing a 2 track and a 3 track on the same Monday, and in some cases a duplication of tracks on both whether it be the single edit or a b-side.
I think that the 5-track CD info was garnered from the German Warners site, so it may well be the tracklisting there?
In the UK, there will be two formats: the first a two-track affair with the radio edit and the album version that will end up selling for a quid, and also the remixes CD (but won't contain all the remixes on the promo CD's) as well as a 12" single.
(see previous thread on this topic)
l8rs,

So did I. However, the incompetents at eil seem not to have changed their ways, so it will probably take about two weeks to arrive.
Here's the gag on the UK releases. Maximum of any three formats to allow chart elegibility. If the CD single has different songs (i.e. an EP, or "B-side") it can only have a maximum of three tracks. If it's a CD full of remixes of the one song, then any number can be included, up to a running time of 40 mins. The two track CDs is a fairly recent record company thing, which they tend to price below what they term the "Maxi CD" single containing three or more tracks.
These chart rules have always been a constant pain in the arse. They're good in that we don't get the many, many different formats of the same recordings (remember when Pet Shop Boys did all those multiple covers and formats for 'Heart'?), but it's bad in that we no longer get traditional four track 'EPs', such as the ones Curve and Oasis always used to release. The twenty minute restriction is also a pain, as it means the UK often gets shorter, edited version of remixes that have full versions of US CD singles (such as 'Crystal').
Anyway, on the 'mixes' CD of Krafty, isn't the 5th track simply the video that runs on a PC? Got the promo in the post this morning, and the mixes aren't up to much anyway - the Phones Reality mix is clever, but the rest are forgettable.

You cats are paying a lot for these promos.
If you wait until the heat cools, they'll probably be cheap as chips on eBay.

There seems to be a pattern these days of single formats released by established acts on major labels. I'm expecting Krafty to have one 2-track CD single for £2, one 3-track CD single for £3 and a DVD single (2 tracks + video) for £4. It's a rip-off for fans but the majors do their market research and that creates maximum impact on charts following the stupid eligibility rules.
They've basically killed off the 4 track ep from being released. That's usually what indie bands (Warsaw? Ideal for Living?) start with. Why they're trying to slow down emerging bands from their prolific beginnings I don't know.
Maybe we'll have the 'buy all 3 for 7.50' in hmv like we had for Crystal and '60'.
U2 recently didi this with the new single - all 3 for 6 quid

Didn't pay for mine, but having just looked at e-bay I'm selling!!
Not really.
All 3 x official UK versions have finally materialised on hmv.co.uk:
Think they'll end up getting dC's hard-earned.
Catalog numbers as expected, no sign of a DVD version however.
I'm guessing we'll end up with a maxi-CD version down this way.

He should just resign!

So aside from the promos where's the best place to order from?
Does anywhere ship early before release date?
The only thing I want is to get my hands on all the remixes, I don't buy to collect as it were (if only I'd done that when Run2 came out :( )
It seems that the 4 track CD Single has all the mixes, CD 1 is for the charts and the 12" is a copy of the 4 track?
I haven't got a record player anymore anyway so I hope the best mixes don't hit the vinyl. Sorry vinyl heads!

Funny fact #6:
I have 2 Krafty promos (twice the 1 track promo), and strange fact is, the CD is different for both...
Go figure.. they did a reprint of the promo or what.
I'd scan it if I had a power supply that works for my scanner, oh well.
Other thing... my album promo is in the mail, should have it today or tomorrow, but they also told me that the album promos WITH ARTWORK will be available at the end of the week...

And what artwork might that be, I wonder?
Well thanks to NOOL's all round diamond geezer I got the 5 track promo today :D
Funnily enough, like the album I'm unsure on first listen.
I'm not feeling the dub mixes, Phones Reality is fairly good and the Glimmer mix is relentless and a bit boring as a result.
Will keep listening though, as WFTSC took me a while to get into it.
A medium, novelty hit for the Order this one I think...
