Possible Chicago Venue?

Hey gang...

Loved the news from Hooky about the possible dates in Chicago and New York...Let's hope they visit more than those two cities...

Any word on a possible venue for NewOrder's visit to Chicago? I am hoping they visit a more small and intimate club...Here is what I am hoping for...

The Riviera Part West Chicago Theater Rosemont Theater The Metro Double Door (secret warmup gig?..The Rolling Stones did it.) House of Blues Millenium Park Grant Park

I am also curious about a possible date...does anyone know when they might visit? April, May, June????

Chicago Theater would be cool. If they don't play anywhere else other than Cali, Chicago, and NYC, I will probably go to the Chicago show. But I'm still holding out hope for a Dallas gig!!!! I think they could easily sell out the Nokia Theater here. (If ticket prices are right) Hell, if Duran Duran can do it, surely New Order can. If they don't play Dallas, then maybe they'll play Houston.

Tinely Park too large for them?

The band are very good old freinds with Joe who runs The Metro (infact Saville designed the logo many years ago)Although at about 2000 capacity I would imgaine it may be a little small...

Too bad Joe Shanahan's an asshole... Oops, did I say that? ;) Did not know that Saville designed the logo though.

Anyhow the Metro would kick some serious butt as a venue. Some of my all-time favorite gigs have happened there, and it also has by far the best sound of any Chicago club.

But it's about as likely they'd play there as they'd play my toilet... I'm guessing the Aragon Brawlroom (yuck!!!!!! - haven't been there since Jane's Addiction in 1991 because I refuse to set foot in the place, it's the world's WORST place to see a gig and you'd literally have to pay me to go there) because it'll still be too early in the season for Tinley Park, and the Riv is still on the slightly-too-small end of things.

Which is too bad because if I couldn't break my vow never to set foot in the Aragon Brawlroom to see the Pixies last fall, I sure ain't gonna do it for NO. :(

Wilco regularly plays the Auditorium Theatre these days - it's slightly bigger than the Riv/Aragon (I think) but still pretty decent sound. That'd be a pretty cool place to see NO I would think...

What is the problem with the Aragon Ballroom? I have never been there, so I don't know much about it...

Are there a lot of thugs that hang there? You called it the "Brawlroom"...

Either way, I am thinking they will be playing one of the smaller venues in town...If they play the Metro, then tickets will be sold out in literally seconds...I would hate to have to pay a ticket broker an obscene amount of money to attend the gig.

I would love to see them play Auditorium Theater..but it almost seems to "nice" and "classy" for a rock band??? I don't think the Riv is too far out of the running...The PetShopBoys played there...

The sound is by FAR the worst sound I've EVER heard at a rock venue. It's simply horrible - it's as if you're in the middle of a massive echo chamber. And on top of it, the sound is horribly muddy and just frankly terrible. I've only been there twice (Sonic Youth/Public Enemy '90, and Janes Addiction '91) and after the second time swore I'd never go back there again. The place just needs to be destroyed. As I said earlier, if I couldn't bring myself to abandon my 13-year boycott (during which I've missed easily 20-30 gigs that I'd have gone to in a heartbeat if they were held elsewhere) to see the Pixies reunion gigs last fall, I wouldn't do it for NO either.

And yes, I witnessed a riot at the Brawlroom after the Sonic Youth/Public Enemy show. Rather odd pairing, yes, and it's possible the odd crowd composition had something to do with it, but the fact they serve beer in super-mega-oversized margarine tubs to the punters is just... weird.

As I said Wilco seems to use that as their home gig base these days, and they're one of the bigger bands active 'round these parts. REM also played there a couple months ago...

Joe's a nice guy. Fact. When you have been in the business putting good bands for as long as he has...THEN make a comment. Until then..I suggest you go back to school.

depending on the level of interest in New Order and how many tickets they would sell after not playing here since 1993, and considering Monaco basically sold out Metro, my guess is they would play the Aragon or Vic. The Joe Shanahan connection might result in an after party @ Smart Bar but Metro is quite small, but Peter loves Joe and the Metro. Even though Joe also owns Double Door or is at least part owner, its way too small. The sound @ Aragon is shitty but it's cool to feel the floor shake. It has high ceilings, that might add to the sound problems there.

Vic---3500

Aragon--- about 5000

double door---about 500

all are GA

Chicago Theatre has seats and holds I think about 5000 as well.

hey jeff, I live with my fiance kinda. Im between homes :( Lindsey offered Wenorder to stay, but it's a super tiny apt and I know she would not allow more than Mike and his wife (she knows them cause we met them in person and love's Mikes wife). I will however, help you find a cheap hotel, pick you up from the airport, and drive you around places in my minivan as your official nooler tour guide :)

What about the United Center? That holds about 20,000? I think New Order would have no problem selling that place out. It would also make a lot of their fans happy, because it might be really difficult to get a ticket if there are only 5,000 available, at the most...

Also, you have to take away a few hundred tickets because of various promotions, give-aways, friends of the band, payolla, etc....

I would be quite content to see them play there. I saw U2 there and it was a great show!...

I hate to bring the Cure or Depeche mode into this, but those bands have had better followings in Chicago than New Order has. The Cure only sold about 10000 tickets last summer and Depeche Mode did not sell out the Allstate Arena which holds about 13000. I don't think New Order has the drawing capability for a place like Tinley Park or the UC. I think Allstate is in reach (formerly Rosemont Horizon for those that saw New Order here in 1989). Another mid sized venue would be the UIC Pavillion. But it depends on the promoter. Jam/Budweiser could afford the risk of UC or Tinley Park, but if it's XRT or Q101, they'd probally push for a smaller venue.

my edumacated guess will be the Aragon Ballroom then if they are shooting for aprox. 5000 capacity.
