JD/NO Videos on VH2's 'BLUE MONDAY' last night

Was just wondering if people here in the UK caught this broadcast and what they thought - only since it was quite comprehensive and I caught some videos for the first time ever - and one of them was actually pretty damn good.

I am in the anti-60 MILES AN HOUR camp - or was - before I could only enjoy the synth break in it but saw the video for the first time last night and it is so good it may actually change my opinion of the tune! Also saw 1963 '94 for the first time - not so good. After watching them all it seems (IMHO) that the best videos of New Order are the ones where they are not present, and of those that they are in, REGRET for me is the best blend of looking great in conjunction with the song. Not so good was the STEREOPHONICS trail that ran across the screen when they got to it.

But fair play - they showed RUN and ROUND & ROUND, FINE TIME. What was the fuss about R&R again?

That's it really. Dunno if people want to pitch in with their best/worst vid thoughts or the night itself. I didn't tape the TOP 10 they had near midnight - anyone know what they had down for that?

for me the best video was for the perfect kiss without question & that featured the band & pretty much nothing else.

It was fairly comprehensive, wasn't it ? They seemed to show the lot, in order of release and then repeat and run out of time. There was some lazy compiling details on the screen information. (Shellshocked? I ask you). They showed Love Will Tear Us Apart twice, original and 1995 but they both sounded like that Permanent mix to me. Transmission from the Something Else tv show was strangely in black & white (I'm sure I've got that in colour on tape somewhere).

4 of the videos I'd never seen before from Spooky to Blue Monday 95. I guess that's because I wasn't watching much tv in those years and I didn't have Sky. Big surprise to see the actress Jane Horrocks frolicking about in the 1963 video. Coincidentally I walked past her in the street a month ago and she is still looking very fine.

Shame there's a gap in videos for the first 4 New Order singles. It's a quite an obvious musical gap in their history. That VH2 can't help, but it was criminal they omitted The Perfect Kiss. Or are they worried viewers can't cope with a video 8-9 minutes long ?

I'd completely forgotten the Hand of God video for years. I can remember being really shocked & embarrassed for them seeing that when it came out originally (before I lightened up). Are there any stories about the making of that video ? They must have been off their faces when doing it. Was it Gretton's idea to debunk the myth ? Given their previous anonymity I wonder how many people thought that's what they genuinely looked like. "World" is my favourite video. A work of art. Pure class.

Incidentally the Top5 VH2 picked were 5 Crystal, 4 Regret, 3 Krafty, 2 True Faith, 1 Blue Monday '88. All very predictable.

The "In control" prog was good too, just for the Bernard vs. Stephen bickering and banter about Russ Abbott. "This is Steve, the dancer."

I totally agree on the LWTUA vids, the clanging outro of the '95 mix was there for both to my ears.

Not to include THE PERFECT KISS was indeed criminal - bit surprised as they could have had a name director credit in Jonathan Demme up there. I had forgotten about it to be honest, but will still go for REGRET for biased personal reasons. It's always interesting to me to see which directors qualify to be credited onscreen. The TRUE FAITH guy got on there but the director of TOUCHED didn't - and I had always thought it was Kathryn Bigelow (STRANGEDAYS, POINT BREAK, NEAR DARK) who had directed it. And this time I recognised Bill Paxton as the guy running around in the video's non-concert 'narrative' - which makes sense as Bigelow and he were making or would have just made NEAR DARK around this time. It's not a very amusing piss-take really - the best thing you can hope for is a generation of Beavis and Buttheads seeing it as a real video but even then...the fact that Mr Gretton gets on stage at the end would perhaps indicate that he was the driving force behind it.

WORLD is pure class - I look forward to seeing that smooth one on a proper DVD. It's got to be a 2-DVD job now doesn't it? When it bloody happens etc.

Just to be a little geeky - did anyone else notice that when they played the Krafty video they got the name of the album wrong - " waiting for the sirens to call " ?

Yeah VH have been naming Waiting For Sirens To Call since the first airing of Krafty vid weeks ago.Maybe someone sahould tell them .The New Order in Control had a few funny bits with Bernard and Steve on the couch introducing vids.Steve Morris Dancer.

As for the JD to NO it was good to see the Crystal vid on telly for the first time since 2001.It`s like none of the channels like showing that one anymore because maybe some people might get mixed up when they see "The Killers" on the bass drum skin.

The whole story behind TBTHG video is that at the time the band were seeing a lot of heavy metal bands, and they thought they were basically just absolute shite. The video is a piss take of the heavy metal bands, as stated by Barney on the 316 DVD interview.

Unfortunately I missed all the videos, do you think the'll dedicate another day to NO when the other two singles are released, cause i'm planning to tape all the videos.

One thing I did catch today though was the New Order vs Interpol on VH2 and I just catched True Faith, Crystal and BLT.

I'd expect them to repeat it sometime, but its not scheduleed again any time in the next 7 days, neither is New Order In Control. At least, not on the Full Programmes listing of my Sky box, which may be missing a few days

normally, Viacom channels repeat stuff like that within days.
