How many of you have heard the New Order soundcheck at the Heaven Ultradisco (London, Feb. 9th 1981) ? This is where they play Walked in Line, No Love Lost, Digital, Decades, Atmosphere, and others.
I now have Digital / Decades / Atmosphere from it, thanks to one or more kind souls on AudioGalaxy, and I must say it's an absolute must for anyone into Joy Division.
It all sounds like a genuine, heartfelt tribute to their "Joy Division years". The lack of anyone singing the words is crucial - it's like by NOT hearing Ian, it somehow reminds you of just how much he made the music work. Or something like that... I can't quite explain it.
The versions of Decades and Atmosphere are especially moving...
