Ana follows New Order's JetsteamLast updated 23 March 2005

Ana Matronic from Scissor Sisters has jetted into the UK to make a video with New Order.

They met at this year's Brits and she's been a fan since she was 13:

Ana provides vocals on their new track 'Jetstream' but stayed tight-lipped about what she's doing in the video:

"All I know is that there are spacecraft involved."

"My styling is futuristic but also has some Japanese embellishments."

"with" or "for" New Order? :skeptic:

I guess we now know for sure what's going to be the 2nd single...

... and it´s a good choice!

Ana will be alone in the video, no doubt about it. it´d be RARE seeing any of the boys there... maybe Phil? :-P

spacecraft? : skeptic :

wanna loan a ROCKET for it?

So is it defo the 2nd single?

As the old kitkat advert said:

they can't sing, can't dance and they look awful, they'll go a long way!!!

The song aint that good, they're old, she's a minger, barney can't dance and you just know one day hooky will swoop down with his bass and need help getting back up, can't wait to see that on TOTP.

Isn't it funny how the biggest fans are the harshest critics.

does she use a dildo:clap:

One of the more legitimate questions today. Anyone ... anyone??

not even a full on big bukkake video featuring "Ana Matronic and the guys from new order" could save the putrid crap, that is jetstream. It has to be New orders worst ever,by a mile:rolleyes:

some nasty opinions here.....

it's not THAT bad of a song...just pop stuff.

looking forward to a video for WFTSC....hopefully Barney on his yacht in a little sailor's cap.

Not releasing Waiting for the sirens call as a single would be as criminal as not releasing Vanishing point as single off technique.

Its the best song in years.

I just checked again, Jetstream is still crap.

Funny that, I just checked again, & its class! :thumb:

Good single - & my kids like it too

Jetsream's definitely the next one cause Richard X is remixing it.

I'm looking forward to it... especially if he makes a couple of subtle changes... like replacing the tune with something that sounds a little less ELO, removing Anna Matromony or whatever her name is, lacing Barney's pernod with the same gear he was using on Technique and then with a gun at his head say to him "JETSTREAM LOVER... go on I fuggin dare you"

... I think we could have a half decent New Order single.

Jetstream's a fuggin mess and stick's out like a saw thumb. And Jacques Le Cunt... sorry Conte, needs a kicking for saying he's a massive fan and then completely producing any sign of New Order out of the track.

That's enough I'm going to have a sit and calm down !!!:nonono:

Trust me, this song is very flat when Ana Matronic's not on it... hence why Stuart Price introduced her to the band...

According to the "other site":

"Jetstream" video is in process to be completed as we speak. The 2nd single (of New Order soon to be release new album "WFTSC") is planned to be release May 16, 2005. Remixes include Arthur Baker, Richard X and Tom Neville.

Agreed, it's definitely rock bottom out of all of New Order's songs for me. They should've given this pop abortion to Gwen Stefani for her crappy solo album.

pfff jetsream the worst new order song ever? some short memories in ere then :D.

just a few of the usual suspects, "state of the nation" what a lazy half arsed track that is,who in the fuck thought it would cut it as a single.

"shellshock" i need not say anymore with this one.

jetstream stands head n shoulders above either of them 2 but for crying out loud its only rock n roll.

No short memory here, eh. I'll take the non-confronting State Of The Nation and even the sub-par Shellshock over Jetstream any day. But hey, we can agree to disagree. Shellshock probably is close to the bottom of my list anyway (if there weren't a bunch of Republic tunes clogging up the drain). :/

Oy! Interested to hear Mr. Baker on it (Confusion, TBTHOG, Behind Closed Doors, and Nineteen63 are among my fave tunes!)

It's a bit off topic, but CuanaD should add this to her list of Barneyisms: "I'm a complete and utter lazy bastard."  Hey Barney, aren't we all. Maybe that's why they didn't quite get it up for Jetstream (but it does have a nice beat...the really corny part is when she says you won't need your baggage.)

'Her list'???

My wife will be interested to find that I'm not a man:evil4: ;)

Any other Barneyisms anyone?

"No, no, I disagree... there's a place in Eastbourne..."

Sorry, wrong topic... should have said:

'Haven't you heard 'World In Motion' or 'that terrible track that ended Get Ready'?

Am I the only one thinking that Shellshock is a really great song, and that it is at least in the Top 20 of NO songs?

Hmmm, then I probably wouldn't make any friends here, saying that I prefer Shellshock over any of the WFTSC-tracks...

I'll think it over...

You are not alone. I like Shellshock. But not more than everything on WFTSC.

JETstream is a pain, really. It sounds like a 2005 version of Liar to me, except by the fact that Liar is FAR superior melodically.

And also has much better chorus, female vocals and groove.

okay, that was a bit over the top. There are songs on WFTSC that can compete with Shellshock. But still, it's a great song!

I agree. One of NO's more memorable lyrics, to me, is "it's never enough until your heart stops beating."

its awfull, and surprise surprise its backed my remixes, why not put a couple of classic live tracks on instead, thats sure to get the younger generation buying they're singles, not just fans like us

Come on - we all knew this would the next single: why else would they draft in a member of one of the zeitgeist's current favourites?? It's definitely one of the weaker tunes from the LP, but I'd stake money on the fact that commercially it's got much greater legs than any other song on WFTSC. And singles, if you hadn't spotted it, are just promotional tools for LPs.

Well, I believe it has radio potential... if this doesn't, then New Order will never be able to climb the charts... there is no song on the album that is as radio friendly as this one I'm afraid.

The single version is nice.

Pretty much right on the nail I'd say, Dr.

First off, apologies to CuanaD, sorry mate, I didn't check the gender before replying.

Jetstream makes sense as a single.  It is a song that could get airplay - which is (as the good Dr. has pointed out) the reason the song is the next single.  I am looking forward to the remixes, as the song has a lot of potential for a good working over.

Regarding Shellshock, it does have strong lyrics (another one from Barney "I tried writing serous lyrics and I was just shit at it."), but I wouldn't place it in the top 20 New Order songs.  The video wasn't that good either. But to each his own and let one thousand flowers bloom.

Have to agree with this also...although Krafty is getting airplay in upstate NY via the alternative station located in Vermont...FWIW :thumb:

I just don't get it.  Its an 'ok' song, to me its one of the weaker efforts on WFTSC - its certainly not great and its completely out of sync with what most of the market is looking for. I mean, aren't singles usually meant to promote the album and boost its sales?  If I heard this song and I'd never heard of New Order, this in no way would make me want to hear more.  If I had heard of New Order, I'd find this song unimpressive, but I might be like "Oh, New Order has a new album out, I should check it out!" - but any song they release would accomplish that.

So, the album seems to be getting mediocre reviews, and now they're going to put out one of its weaker songs as a single.  Maybe they just don't give a darn, but (IMHO)  by putting this on their album, and now releasing it as a single, they're just plain  embarassing themselves.

I also don't understand this whole thing with collaborations.  First, it seems like any time a band does song that's a collaboration, it just  has to be released as a single even if its no good.  Second, if the song is really that bad without Ana Matronic, that's probably a good hint that the song is fundamentally not that good and should have been reworked or scrapped.

Anyway, its a sad day when the greatst band in the last 25 years has to bring in outsiders to prop up their work and (apparently) their sales.

Sorry for ranting....

Oops, I had intended this to be attached to the thread about the Jetstream video, but I screwed up and I can't delete it.  If a moderator kindly would delete it, that'd be swell....

what kills me is that it's going to take away a song slot from their upcoming shows if they decide to play it. "J-E-T, COME ON!!! j-eee---t"

Jetstream is a harmless, catchy pop song - lay off :nono:

Is there such a thing as a harmless, catchy pop song?

Jetstream is not the worst ever (by a long shot, but I'd take bad New Order over almost anything else), but I think "Turn", "Morning Night and Day", and "Waiting for the Sirens' Call" would make better choices for singles than Jetstream.  Maybe they were thinking about the potential for the video and hoping this would give the album more exposure (or more exposed Ana).  If it's a marketing ploy, I wish them all the best.

For the record, I ain't pulling my penis out for any song.  I certainly hope that everyone going to the Chicago show feels the same way.  BTW, is there a reason for the apparent fascination with the penis?  Is this some British thing that us Americans don't get? Maybe they could get an interesting tour t-shirt out of this whole penis thing.

WFTSC is still supposed to be a single...

And I hope they do, it diserves it, being the best song of the album by far.

Me too. And I'm bringing mine with me to the Chicago show, but it's staying hidden, even if Ana is there.

I totally agree with the WFTSC as a must-do-single. I don't like "Jetstream". It is the most unspectacular song on the whole CD.

This reminds me of 1989 - 1990 when XTC released the Mayor of Simpleton(Krafty) single and everyone in the States hailed it as a return to form and a great new classic and all and whatnot, and then listened to King for a Day(Jetstream) and immediately loathed it solely for the 'overproduced' saccharine sound.

Two pop songs similar in structure and overblown production levels, differing in tempos. What you really have to do is realize that indeed it maybe sellout pap but that the band is never going to produce another Low-Life/Black Sea.

Not a bad song, but frankly I thought the singles for the album should have been Guilt, Morning Night and Day, and WTFSC (Yeah I thought Krafty was mediocre).
