I'm asking because we might have to rollback to the old one, I just noticed today that this application is using more than 2 times the amount of bandwidth the other used to.

So it's not a good thing... because we'll bounce our daily limit easily if we go on.

I think it's easier to fix the old one than to start modifying the new one to use less bandwidth...

It's not 100% sure, otherwise we might have to change host for one that gives us more bandwidth.

It seems the trouble will never stop, isn't it?

Wih me luck.. and let me know if you think anything is worth keeping on this new forum application.

Yes, I'll import everything back to the old one if I do...!

I have turned off the stupid feature that auto-refreshes the page each 5 mins... that might actually be a huge part of the problem.

We'll see with tomorrow's statistics...

I don't have any problems with this new one really, I quite like it I guess. The old forum however fitted in with the actual website more so it felt as if everything was one, although this forum seems more advanced and modern. I'm really not to bothered which forum you decide to use though, just as long as we can be kept up to date and discuss the going ons of New Order. That's what this website and forum is all about when it comes down to it.

Bandwidth problems again, Nic? When Al suggested we remove the avatars you replied there was no need since this time we had more than enough bandwidth, and now you're thinking about returning to the old forum! Why, what happened in the meanwhile? Anyway I don't see huge differences between the forums. Well, this new one is much faster, pages take much less to load. On the old forum we still had the simple text editor which was faster, and it supported animated GIFs for avatars. Also it used the same accounts of the Community, where the profiles are more complete... Whatever happens, I hope it remains as fast as it is now... I'm happy you removed the automatic refresh... I think that caused a couple of crashes on my old PC... Uhm, wanted to make a donation but apparently Pay Pal can't verify my pre-paid credit card.... I heard there were problems with Pay Pal for pre-paid cards, which is ridiculous since every record shop has accepted it so far. Anyway I think we all should give a little help to this site. After all, if I spend NINE Euros for the Mojo issue with Ian on the cover (great post punk CD featuring ACR attached though), maybe (even if I'm almost penniless) I can send 10 dollars to our good old Nic, right? If only I could make this stupid Pay Pal work...

What do I like about this new forum? Hmmm... Let me see. This forum seems to be much more stable, the search engine actually works and the automatic resizing of avatars is fine. I can't think of anything else positive to say.

well, in the new one you must upload your avatars instead of linking them. i´m sure that is one of the biggest problems as everytime a user loads a page loads a number of avatars from NOOL. for example this is the path to your avatar, Nic

I really do not like posting on this new forum. It's okay from work where we've got hyper-speeds, but even at home where I've got broadband it takes too long just to download a page. WHY do we need to load all the emoticons into the posting page when I want to post a message which may, or may not, need them. It strikes me as overkill and a rather pointless design. How big is each emoticon? Small, obviously, but even with 2k each that's a rather pointless 100k loaded up every time I post. I usually have Soulseek or WinMX going at home and it's a rather laborious process to post here - I can literally see each emoticon loaded, slowly, one by one when I bring up this posting window.

Actually, that is not really an issue.

The avatar is really not that big of a deal, the WYSIWYG editor is probably taking a lot more bandwidth, but then again, it's not like we have 1 million messages per day, so it must be the pages themselves.

Yesterday we got 6 GB of data, it's still too much, but it's still ok.

I'll work all week to fix the old forums, we'll see what happens.

are you sure about that? because i thought that the size of each avatar is equal as the size of the image you uploaded. or does the system transform not only the shape but also decreases the kb?

Al what you say sounds weird because this forum is actually much faster than the old one... if this is slow, how slow could it be the old one for you? Actually the WYSIWYG editor is fookin heavy and I see each button of the toolbar being loaded (buttons I don't even use) though I suspect that it's not a question of downloading but rather of loading the feature on my system and I have an old PC. Anyway there's something unstable in this forum, so the problems you are referring might be effects of this unstability on your PC... I know it has effects on mine, since 7 times out of 10 this forum makes my system crash. It all works alright (except waiting half a minute for the fookin editor to load and the cursor to appear so I can write), but then it just freezes... this happened even more often when there was the automatic refresh.

What I mean by it's slower is that the first time I hit post or reply I have to wait for the formatting crap to load up. Once that task is done if I make another post or reply it loads up faster.
