Anyone here know why the original US version of Movement used the white/maroon color scheme? I actually prefer it to the blues, myself...

I've never seen this version, got a picture? When I was in the States in '98 I did my level best to hunt down a Movement CD at various stores but had no luck. I was just discovering the band then and it was the only NO album I didn't own. I have the US versions of Substance, Low-life, Brotherhood and PC&L with the irritating extra text on the covers saying it's a New Order release but Movement seemed impossible to locate. I simply picked it up the blue covered UK copy when I got back to old blighty. I take it this white one is a Qwest release?
Actually that's a point, since the Qwest label is apparently no more, have Warner's reissued all of NO's albums in the States under their own label? Is the sound quality/artwork any better?

No, I haven't got a picture, but just imagine the blue cover as having a white background and the F., L., and underlines as being maroon with the center text reading FACTUS. 50 1981 (if I remember correctly - my vinyl's back at my folks' house in Pittsburgh). It was the pre-CD release on Rough Trade US, and printed on that lovely raw cardstock. Yummy!
The Qwest CD was the usual blue cover - strange that you couldn't find it anywhere, Ally.

Yeah I found it a bit weird as well! I think it was just bad luck and all the stores I went to were out of stock of Movement for that particular month... I remember being chuffed at finding the US version of (the best of) NewOrder because you got the different tracklisting and Let's Go (Nothing For Me) which isn't on the UK version. It's still the only actual CD still with the full uncut/unfaded version of that track.

They list this as being the US CD cover, but I've never seen this configuration on anything but the 12" vinyl. Huh.
Qwest never issued the first version of Movement in the U.S.....It was only out through Rough Trade. I had the cassette, which had the maroon color, and the cassette was clear with a white sticker on it. A bit odd since at the time most of the tapes that were out were still white. It wasn't until Republic came out that Qwest picked up Movement for actual domestic release, with the blue colors.

Actually, I can't find any explanation there for the different covers at all (at least not on the Movement page). Thanks anyway, though!

well the back sleeve says a factory compact disc, the cd itself says factus 50cd & has the factory logo on but also says distibuted by rough trade
