You know, Damon Albarn seems to have achieved the unthinkable - through Gorillaz, he's only succeeded in making people who otherwise would have hated Blur to go out and buy his records. Sneaky bugger eh?

I've heard loads of folks saying that they despised Blur or had very little time for them, only to add that..."but them Gorillaz songs are pretty cool "

Wonder if these people are aware that Damon's behind this, or do they just go by the cartoon characters that front this project, thinking that they really are the band as such ?- interesting thought however.

They'll never top Song 2 though.

but patsy...boys and girls was pretty good, wasn't it???

I only ever bought two of their albums, Jeff, the one with Song 2, and the one with a hospital stretcher on the cover, or is that the same one? Anyway, I don't remember Boys and Girls, unfortunately.

But what I mean is every living person on the planet has heard Song 2, although if you said Blur to them they'd say, What?

actually Patty...I got it backwards...it's girls and boys...and it was on Parklife...which had some dogs (greyhounds if I'm not mistaken) on the cover...I loved the song, but apparently it wasn't big over here...

and you've got it quite right...I think Song 2 is played on commercials, and at every athletic event in the United States, and probably Canada as well...

Slow Jam is one of the greatest songs New Order has ever created. They have moved on with the times. Definitely not a "fart" in the face!

Out of Music...Englands capitulation to Australia in the Ashes in the summer - mainly due to injuries IMO...and realizing that age is finally starting to catch up with me...no more sleepless weekends for Seb Im afraid

I thought the topic was biggest - let down, England losing the Ashes was a bonifide certainty Sebsy - Half the team are made up of South Africans, Indians and Aussies anyway;)

I've actually done a pissing great re-mix of "Bong 2" on this very computer, using SoundEdit ™ , a very simple overhaul mind - none of your fancy new drumbeats or cliched four-four dancey bollocks like that - it's just played at two very different speeds: snails pace, then absolutely fucking breakneck. The few mates I've played it to have never laughed so much - they found it fucking hysterical. If I could upload it as an MP3 I would do so but being a technology philistine I haven't the faintest clue of how to go about doing this. So you may never get to hear it (or my own truly evil Simpletext version of Radiohead's "Fitter Happier" for that matter....).

A good point and well made! I actually went as far as taking all the Albion stickers out of my car when we went to Ninian. Certainly not a place where you can wear your colours with pride. It amazes me that at least 100 people were just there to stare at the away fans, and didn't watch a minute of the game. What really took the biscuit was when they started shouting "You cheating English bastard" at Nathan Jones. I mean, have you ever heard a more Welsh sounding name.....

Nathan Jones? Fuck me - bet his parents were bonking heavily to the (August, 1971) Supremes hit of the same name then..... If he should happen to be 29 years old, then that obviously figures.

Exactly right, and you may claim your ten pounds!!

If he's not, he'll get more abuse here than Jerry.

I'm naturally a stupid optimist Shugs - Mind you I thought they'd get hammered in INdia and they're doing alright. Didn't deny my earlier suggestion that you 'flopped' at the big moment on your Christmas do then?

The whole "jihad against America"...you know Osama's gotta be pissed that didn't work to his favor.

Musically, GR's poor performance, Amnesiac initally (though it grew on me obviously), Nsync still selling (NKOTB should sue them for every last penny), the MTV-fueled rock-rap hybrid (not enough imagination from them boys, eh)

Bigest letdown of the year has to be the increasing poor taste of the record buying public... when will people discover some taste again? Or are we to be endlessly subjected to more and more boy bands etc and crap dancey shite? I just want to shake people and shout at them when they tell me that they really like the new *hear'say/kylie/nsync/five/sclub7 single... makes me so fecking angry! Grr!

I'm starting to understand Martin more at the moment... he makes a lot of sense...

Liv  x - for Marty

No, no, I'm not being sarcastic!! Your assesment was spot on. His mother loved the song, realised her surname was Jones and saddled the poor lad for life. He will be 29 in May. He must have got loads off his schoolmates when Bananarama covered it.

Biggest flop of the year - the demise of the twin towers......and the subsequent fucked-up political decision to award the new National Stadium contract to Wembley again. Bastards !!

Spiritualized's album, which has grown a bit on me since I bought it, but is still a bit disappointing overall.

Second musical flop would be the dismal US sales for the current albums by both New Order and R.E.M.
