Funky new forum although it's a bit of a shame the old stuff is apparently gone, I'd just passed the 200 post mark after three years :D Hopefully Nic will have some success at importing the old forum database but if not... there's nothing like a spring clean! :D On a personal note it's a massive coincidence this "wipe clean" has occurred a day or two after a weekend where a hard drive of my own has had a catastrophic hardware failure resulting in complete data loss. Lol, looks like I'm not the only one making a fresh start system-wise. I had up-to-date backups so I can laugh rather than cry thankfully.

As for the New Order content of this post... Urm, well I received my official cardboard sleeve CD-R promo copy of the new album. Thankfully it all looks (and sounds) very kosher but I must say London Records are complete tight-arsed bastards for not sending out properly pressed CDs instead of just stamped CD-Rs. The quality on the disc is top notch and the versions included are almost indentical (mix-wise) to the original M4A/MP3s floating around (you know if you have them). Those damn premix versions including the stripped down Jetstream with only Barney on vox would appear more elusive than originally thought. The only main difference from the net-available MP3s is that Hey Joe no longer fades into Hey Now What You Doing, aside from that everything is the same (Inc. the Ana Matronic appearance)

Very much enjoying the full quality CD blast of new New Orderness though.

Almost hit 666...ah well. I bet this uses a whole lot less CPU.

Good news. The first version is a lot better produced than the "second one"...

True, the apparent "final mix" has got far more chart potential... But I kinda enjoyed the premix "stripped down" one; the intro beat was kinda funky but the piano was far too MIDI for my taste. For a "knocking 50 year-old" Barney did a damn good job of the vocals including how they were all mixed to back up themselves (remember, no Ana Matronic in this version) In an ideal world we'd also get it on the CD single as an "alternative version" but that's about as likely to happen as a tour without the autocue :D Hopefully us die-hard collectors will come across a cache of the premix CDs somewhere ;) And hopefully not on Esprit as I don't fancy taking out a loan.

This has me thinking...I bet tracks like "Jetstream" and "I Told You So" will have the poptastic crossover appeal that will garner interest than a more purist outing would not. "Pop group with a dark past" being the operative phrase in question. At the same time, they do represent a departure (Jetstream more so) from all that the 'ardcore held dear with the group. It's not just trolls like AJ Wells and Eddie Colton either, but a few associates I have the utmost respect for have expressed their dissatisfaction with the recording, and while I don't agree with their sentiment, I do see where they are coming from. I wonder how the band is going to react to this...it's so easy to spin this as "victory lap" or "lost their way"...but I really do think they're trying to please everybody, which might be the problem...dunno...

Barney's vocals are excellent on this album. The lyrics..well, it's Bernard Sumner! Anyway, I guess I'm posting on this thread because "Hey Now" is my favorite track on the album. It's such a solid song from start to finish, and that chorus is a lot of fun to sing in the car. There's a section, right after Barney sings "..you took it from my shoulder holster" where the synth stabs and sharp guitar strums blend perfectly, and send chills up my spine. THEN it goes into that great chorus with some brilliant bass by Hooky. It actually took me a half-dozen listens to the album before I realized how awesome this song is. Time to go put it on.

I had "Hey Now" pinned as "Close Range pt. 2" (mainly for the lyrics) but it's better than that I think.

Time to give up, I obviously know nothing. I was certain the "other" promo would end up being the finished article.

So when does Jetstream without Ana get an airing, then? I actually prefer that one...

Don't be so hard on yourself, mate...I liked the "Working Overtime" on that version, and having Bernard's vocals up in the mix was actually a good thing...as for Jetstream, noo, the version with Ana is much better, it's really missing something with just Bernard backing himself...
