I was reading Shug's thread "is it really 1000", and that brought to mind the ritual that takes place every year in my house. Each New year when its just gone 24.00 i leave all the people i'm with at that moment , go up to my stereo and play the Bside of Closer LOUD!!Although i hate new year and the 'parties" that come with it, this is for me a way of starting a new one.... with the ever so legendary as well as touching Closer. Was wondering whether there's more people having these kind of strange hobbits ehh habits.

Here are the young men a weight on their shoulders

Mario my friend...my ritual for about the last five years (since my girlfriend left me) is...getting me loads of beer the day before (usually Heineken 'cos it's one of my favourites)...then listen to the songs which give me special thrills (a mix of NewOrder/JoyDivision-tunes), drink myself into a coma and hope that next year is not going to be as worse as the last one....

...and i guess you'll meet me here in the forum after midnight...:D

I was considering a New Order festival, sort of a journey thru their entire chronology, but I'll probably just get wasted if I'm out with friends

PS Finally ordered a copy of Technique today! :jump: :)

The record store is going out of business soon, but hopefully they'll get it in before they close down.

I'll play Decades again on New Year's Eve as usual. Have done for 20 years now. The year hasn't finished until I have done that.

Considering how this year's gone for me and the Love Of My Life, I should play Love Will Tear Us Apart (but that's a whole different story in and of itself)

I might play Blue Monday or something cheerier (though not at full blast like I did a few weeks back)

Every year - one of the family throws a party - and almost every year - I give them Temptation as it's never been done before, on the karaoke with just a normal cassette playing:nod: Sad but true:lol: Usually takes me 10 or 15 beers first though;)

Suppose this counts as a ritual of sorts. I bought a new car back in 85, and while taking it out for a spin on the first day, Love Vigilantes came on the radio. It was a brilliant sunny spring day, and that song at that moment was just icing on a great day. Still drive over that stretch of 99E where it came on, and that song ALWAYS comes into my mind.

Well, I haven't got any special ritual as such....but I've so far managed to keep this practice of buying things.

My first CD bought of 3000+ collection - NO's Lowlife, bought in 1986 My first DVD bought - NO's 316

Unfortunately I've to admit being a big Numanoid. My first music cassette - Gary Numan's Pleasure Principle My first vinyl album - Gary Numan's Telekon

Hey, any NO fans out there like Gazza? Or at least, Gazza of circa 78-84??

Hey,man....just email me and I'll send you a CD compilation of Numan/Tubeway Army stuff ( I've got almost all formats up till 1984 ) Just tell me which Gazza you like to listen, - the guitar stuff '78 The Plan/Tubeway Army or the synth stuff '79/80/Replicas/P.Principle/Telekon or his slightly indulgent stuff '82 onwards.....anything past '84 me thinks it's a bit in whacko-jacko territory...but still with respect I have some of the CDs.... Give me a yell and I'll send you a CD,mate...no worries...

Well SuperMario - my New Order related ritual ALWAYS - and make no mistake about this - involves listening to their songs whilst undertaking true and throrough soyder imbibement. And I adhere to this ritual most passionately my friend... I say - this enhances the listening experience quite like no other anybody can ever hope to come up with. New Order = soyder. The two are utterly inseperable...arf! arf!!
