Why did New Order refuse to play in South America

what you´ve been informed is just not true, Eduardo. i know first hand that they don´t come here because nobody seriously offered them to come. of course there´s money involved and a long trip by plane. you have to consider all of these elements and you´ll find the answer. i know there´s interest from a specific argentinian impresario so we´ll see. but don´t lose your hopes because there will be another album next year so we still have chances.

well, Brazil must be the third or fourth country that bought more NO records in history. besides that country is much more beautiful than your 4 tea shops, not to talk about the women there!

it´s just a matter of currency. the pound beats the hell out of the Real and the Peso almost 6 to 1. period.

Nobody in Brazil or Argentina (well, some few prople in Brazil and probably in Argentina) could afford a 50$ USD ticket to see them live actually...

From what I've heard, there is no middle class in Brazil, so you're either rich or poor, I don't know if that's true or not, but that's what I've been told.

That is an economical tragedy... yes, but they could tour there using a local crew instead of flying their own, but they wouldn't make any money out of this, they would do it just for the fans.

Japan and Australia are better for that matter, but hey, they don't come to Canada at all and did 1 date in 2001 only, and Canada is part of the G7...

I don't think money is an issue. Loads of big bands have been playing in Brazil in the last years and the venues were always packed despite the tickets being so expensive.

Since the Get Ready [ahem] "tour" New Order have been very selective about where they play and perhaps there's really no interest in playing in Brazil. They don't have to play here if they don't want to.

By the way Nicolas, this stuff about "there's no middle class in Brazil" is a pretty big exaggeration.

Yeah, I should check my information before putting them online, that was from my friend & his portuguese wife ;)

I sympathise with Brazilian fans seemingly not getting any gigs this time around, but implying they're being greedy and cynically ignoring Brazil is probably a bit unfair. If I was say, Barney at this stage in the band's career I would see no need to return to the grim old days of 85-90 touring my arse off and hospitalising myself in the process. Not to mention falling out with the rest of the band in a nasty way. They seem to have a decent touring schedule coming up, they can't really be expected to play the entire planet. As DC said hopefully for the next album you'll get a festival or two.
