Stranger things have happened

But this is funny: While on lunchbreak from the ole shit factory, I went to a nearby Chinese restaurant to feed myself. While munching down on lo mein, I noticed the song playing over the soundsystem was "Don't Stop" by the dreaded S club, but here's the kicker: Excpet for the "Don't stop", everything else was in Chinese. I wondered if I was actually hearing that or not, but there it was. Most interesting....:grin:

Yeah, that's rather common, Tabsy. You know those songs probably came from Hong Kong...It's quite common to find your Top 50 hits being translated into Cantonese versions in HK and these restauranteurs probably buy them ( for their own consumption? ) And usually the key chorus is kept English or it's original form so that the boogieing Asian-listeners could still get the feel of the original song... In Australia, you can hear a lot of such hits by walking around Chinatown....haven't heard any NO's song being turned Cantonese though....maybe NO's not THAT BIG YET... I think one of my relatives has an Asian version of most Pet shop Boys songs...they're quite BIG in Hong Kong back in the 80's..... Being a Chinese myself, maybe I could translate some of those words for ya...hee-hee
