As long as your proxy bid is high enough, you won't be outbid at the last minute. Of course, you can end up spending crazy money that way, but as long as your proxy bid is the highest price you'd be willing to pay, you'll either win the auction, or lose to someone who's willing to pay more.
Doesn't keep me from hating Ebay, though... I just have different reasons.

Well thank you for explaining the fine art of egg-sucking. Not a lot you can do when someone ups a price by nearly £100 though and your PC hangs when raising your bid, is there?
Nutcase what did the NOSAMP1 go for in the end, out of interest? Do you have the link saved?
:\pimp3:
What a load of crap. Why do you think the bloke that outbid you is a muthaf**ker? That's what happens at auctions, for f**ks sake! Get over it. I'd imagine it'd be a different story if you were selling.
Was it you then Jim, or did you only buy the Tourette's pills (which have yet to arrive....)?

Nice reply vim,sorry jim.
Twas very petulant of me to even post! for your information smart ass, the guy who outbid me is an old mucker who i've known for a few years, was purely a piss take post and to forward my commiserations to the webmaster for missing out on an item that he had been after for a while too!
ADVICE,FOOT IN MOUTH EXIT STAGE LEFT!![]()
To depthcharge, think that the nosamp went for about £30+ but unfortunately didn't keep the link. FOR FOOKS SAKE SOMEONE FIND ME ANOTHER COPY BEFORE I PISS MYSELF!

P.S TO JIM,I DON'T SELL ON EBAY,PREFER TO TRADE WITH MY MUCKERS ON NOOL!:)
Incidentally I rather foolishly bid on one of those fake SLY Promo CDs that were doing the rounds on eBay last week. Obviously I know (now) but at the time my curiosity got the better of me and I won it for £7.10. Pretty cheap for the real thing I thought. Then I noticed the seller was flogging "New Order Acid House Mixes" by 808 State on "Promo CD" with the A and B vinyl tracklisting intact
Bollocks, I knew I'd been had. These were in fact nothing more than a bunch of low quality vinyl to CD transfers which is why the SLY tracklisting in the auction is not in any NO discography under the sun. Neither was the "True Faith (Whitelabel) Promo CD" he was flogging.
Thankfully all this dawned on me before I'd PayPal'd any money so I'm not out of pocket. Anyway I emailed the guy (letshaveadeal just so everyone knows) and presented my evidence (numerous discography entries) to prove it was a fake. He sent me a photo of a generic black faced CD that said "PROMO ONLY - STRICTLY LIMITED" and had absolutely no band information on it. Faker than Michael Jackson's skin colour basically. Also any New Order discography freak, including me really :) worth his salt knows that SLY was only ever available on promo CDRs and not pressed CDs. Do'h ![]()
Anyway, fellow NOOLers please disregard letshaveadeal's auctions otherwise you will almost certainly be taken for a ride. Wouldn't want anyone else to go through the email hassle I've gone through (threats etc.) to get him to invalidate the auction. I checked his other items and to say they're dodgier than a 12 pound note is an understatement. Plus he never includes any photos which is normally a dead giveaway.
This was letshaveadeal's email response to my final email detailing how most of his stock was fake:
"i thought you are hunting for music...but no problemdeal is closed"
Prick!
Ally.
It's not just one seller. There is a little group of them knocking out this crap. They also bid on each others auctions to build up their feedback.

Agreed, but I didn't actually pay any money which was lucky. I noticed all his dodgy items shortly after I placed the winning bid in the usual eBay page of "Other items this seller offers". They all were fake and were convincing enough for me to not follow up my winning bid with a PayPal payment. To follow up my original post, I've since had an email from eBay that reads:
The following listing:4715413297 - New Order - Someone Like Youhas been removed from eBay for violating eBay policy. Since this listing was removed, you are not required to complete the transaction. For a complete list of eBay's policies, please visit: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/item\_allowed.html Regards,Customer Support (Trust and Safety Department)eBay Inc
I placed a detailed complaint referring eBay to two further items "letshaveadeal" was selling a day or two after I won the SLY auction. In other words, got the bastard! ![]()
Ally.
Cheers for the info ally,i'll post the other names of the dodgy dealers soon - i promise!
regards
Update,
the seller who i got mine from looks to have had multipersonality disorder, seems that he has been registered with ebay under 3 different user names so far.
As for the other names of the dodgy dealers, did a quick search and seems that some of the sellers ARE legit, albeit selling unlegitimate merchandise.
They must know that it is dodgy gear, will wait to see if i get the copy i won and if it is dodgy then i will post all the usernames of the dodgy twats on ebay!

Be aware that any so-called 808 State "Blue Monday" promo CD's out there are all fake - they just don't exist! :)
Some start at 9 quid a pot, and some start at 19 quid a pot... All fakes, so beware! ![]()
