Ive been a new order fan since i was in junior highschool (about 87) i had a debate with a friend of mine as to what NO's lyrics mean. He was saying that they reference alot to homosexuality, he went as far as saying all of their lyrics are like that. i thought that was abusrd, but then i cant back up my words because i myself dont know what their lyrics mean. i guess my friend may have a basis because 1963 kinda sounds like he is either bi sexual or homosexual who knows.

can anyone here shine some light into what some of their lyrics mean. like blue monday, perfect kiss, etc.

TIA.

Barney's explanation, in his own words :

'"1963" is the year that J.F.K. was S.H.O.T. and my theory is that he actually arranged for the gun man, "Lee Harvey Oswald" to shoot his wife, Mrs. K. so that J.F. could do one with M. Monroe who committed suicide then she found out "Oswald" had hit the wrong target. Oswald was later shot by his boss (don't know his name) for doing such a bad job and causing his hit-man business to go bust.'

I once read a story on here that it's about Ian Curtis who killed himself on a monday...

But take that with a grain of salt.

Actually, Ian killed himself early on a Sunday morning, not long before dawn allegedly.

Dawn who?

Dawn who?

Fades, I presume.

I always thought this was a fictionalized story of a soldier coming home all messed up ('And though he was ashamed that he had took a life'), married to a wife from another country (Johnny came home with another wife, he could have been married before) & pointing a gun at his kid brother. From Bernard's perspective, his birthday is in January (and in 1963, he would of been 7 years old). Also, the lyrics "I just want you to be mine,I don't want this world to shine,I don't want this bridge to burn, Oh, Johnny, do you miss me?" could be said by a little brother. And maybe "Johnny" is totally fictional, like "When Johnny comes marching home my dear, hurrah, hurrah." As for the JFK/Marilyn thing, Monroe's DOB was 6/1/26, not really fitting in with the song.

i would guess it is a hyped version of a violent issue bernard witnessed when he was young. it could have been his parents or a movie who knows. it is a re-interpetaion of a feeling. the stage is simply set more elaborate.

They've said before that the lyrics are "open to interpretation by each listener". Maybe you should try that approach?

It's just a rhyme

I'm having a serious internal debate about whether the chap who dredged this one up from the deep should be punished for trawling this nonsense back into the daylight, or applauded for demonstrating his posession of Clue No.1 by actually using the search on a forum before posting the 573000th thread asking about this...... I mean these days that's a rare level of cluefulness.

You should have better things to worry about, Dr.

more puzzling is what is "World In Motion" all about. Lyrics about creating space, beat the man, hold and give, but do it at the right time. Is it about a man' s sexual activity with another man?

And the video adds further confusion with a load of English footballers singing about "arriverderchi its one on one" and kicking footballs in the net.

That's an interesting interpretation.

I would actually have preferred 1963 as an instrumental, more like Elegia. Its a good track to have at the end of an album.

This one crops up every month or so on this forum. Here's an example: http://neworderonlinecom.nexpoint.net/thread.asp?action=&thread\_id=5609&forum\_id=1 where the gist of the posts is as follows...

The comments about 1963 and JFK was just Barney talking generally about the year 1963, and JFK, not the song. There was an online streamed interview at the time Get Ready was released (an interview from GetMusic. To hear the interview just follow this link http://www.getmusic.com/calendar/audiochats/neworder/index.html and click on Hear The Chat Now) and a fan emailed in the question about the lyrics to 1963, and Barney just said it's a song from the point of view of a wife, being shot by her partner Johnny, then him going on to get another wife. The interviewer was a complete twat. Barney explained "1963" lyrics, saying that is a fictitious story about a man who kills his wife and the guy went "It sounds like an Eminem track to me". Really embarrassing.

The description he gives in that book doesn't marry up with the lyrics, as that would mean JFK shooting his missus, then remarrying, wouldn't it?

Hope that clears it all up, once and for all - although I'm sure someone else will be posting this question again in the near future!

Yeah try and USE it.

Go on search for a few things or threads you KNOW exist, see how useful the answers are.

I think Nicos has a boobytrap set up that whaps the googlebot over the head the minute it comes to index this site, giving the little blighter concussion.
