What is the signifigance of "the Beach" like;

1. B-side of Blue Monday and lyric within it too.
2. Atmosphere video has a reference of a beach

Did something important happen there? I think theres one more NO or JD song that has a Beach reference too.

Passover also had a reference to a beach. I thought Ian was trying to combine the emptiness and desolation of an empty beach with the usual imagery we have of beaches in high summer, packed with holidaymakers. There's also the "washed up" aspect of something that has been rejected by life and even rejected by the sea......

Bernard may be trying to portray the same imagery.

And let's not forget the prophetic dream that Debbie Curtis had about walking alone on a beach, which later proved true in summer of 1980 when she and her parents went to Scotland after Ian's death.

The lyric isn't "beach", it's heat. I guess you can stretch it to say beaches are usually hot so ain't it close?

I think the only Joy Division song that has the word Beach is Passover. It's in the context of crisis and disappointment and Blue Monday has that as well.

The only significance of Beach as the song title is that it's a remix of Blue Monday and they had to come up with a name and since they had no more movie titles to use they used the word Beach because it's in the song and unlike Ian, Bernard didn't rhyme Beach with another word. But Blue Monday does use "cold" immediately after "Beach" so it's an interesting juxtaposition of Beach (normally warm, invoking images of friends and families playing together) with Cold (the word, and a metaphor for coldness between people). So is the title Beach intended to emphasize the coldness that is at the heart of Blue Monday?
