Blue Monday..to play or not to play ?

Personally I think they should STOP playing this live now. It's quite predictable and doesn't excite me anymore. Of course they wont stop this year because of the Kylie factor.

If NO played a live version of the original then it would be great to hear. But unfortunately they insist on replacing the thickly layered synths that afforded them their legendary status with cheap imitations.

Wembley Arena 87's BM, as an example, enhances the original into a worthwhile live experience.

I dont know why they keep playing it.

Even Barney said he outright hates it.

I think they are afraid not to play it. They think some poor soul came just to hear BM and if they don't play it that person will leave unhappy.

reminds me of Depeche Mode '87, so many disappointed fans who didn't hear 'people are people' BUT - Let's give respect where it is due. Blue Monday is still an amazing work.

Agree however that the original (classic?) versions are preferable.

Exactly. I could live without it, though it's still my favourite song, but they've made so many others... Like he said at Reading 1993, "Hey, but it's our biggest hit!". It would make no sense to not play it, it would be as stupid as Radiohead not doing Creep at gigs... They should just rework it a little more, base it on a remix like they did with True Faith. There are several remixes, not all of them good, but they could start from the Hardfloor 1995 version... it would be more exciting for them and for the audience to refresh it...

The 1983 Top of the Pops version has it all and clocks in at under 5 minutes. Do that version (Christ, it can't be THAT hard to program ), and give us the one-two punch of "This Time of Night" immediately following.

Start out with the intro sequencing to BM- then segue into Jetstream instead.

Its power is all in the rhythm and the keyboards, without those it's nothing. I've just had an amazing idea: they could mix it with Kylie Minogue's Can't Get You Out Of My Head!

From what I've heard, Radiohead have started playing Radiohead again only recently after many years, but I'm not sure...

Radiohead played Creep the 2 times I saw them last year, including Coachella.

back on topic though - i hope they don't play it when i see them at the end of this month, but if they do, for gad's sake, do something fun with it. it's a friggin borrrrrrring song to me now. i almost hate it myself.

They should just let me DJ the fokkin thing before the show and I can throw on the DJ DAN remix and that's that.

They played Creep at Coachella last year...

For me the Chicago show will be the first time I've seen them in 24 years (Bradford, Oct 1981) so BM would be just fine for me. What we really need is a long, long version of Perfect Kiss.

That is exactely what they've been doning since they started playing again in 98. No Fine Time and Blue Monday every concert. Not that I really want Fine Time. Well only if Barney does it like he did on TOTP.

Since it's been so long since they have played the midwest of the US of A, I wouldn't mind if they played it or didn't play it. But I definitely would not feel disappointed, upset or otherwise agitated if they didn't play it. Many good suggestions have been made for songs to play instead of Blue Monday - the list is long for songs you'd like to hear and we've all heard Blue Monday enough times. If Arthur Baker is DJing at the gig, he can do the song, and New Order can play something different. If NO play it, I hope they do something different with it. An acoustic version might be too severe.

I definitely want them to play it, but it would be nice if they did a medley with 5 8 6 or TBTHOG or something.
