This is an archived legacy thread. Replies are closed, but the discussion is preserved.

There has been several threads on this subject lately, I thought I would post them here so everybody can give their shot at correcting them before we get corrupted by the live versions ;)

It will be updated each time corrections make sense.

Who’s Joe?

Hey Joe what you doing? It seems like it's all going wrong There's a storm in the sky passing over And it looks like it's going to be strong

You've got eyes like an old wounded soldier They cry tears to be lost in the wind

Hey Joe Hey Joe Hey Joe What are you gonna do?

I'll look for you And I'll get you home Wherever you go Whatever you do I've got to find you I've got to find you (Whatever I do)

I'll look for you And I'll take you there Wherever you go Whatever you do I've got to find you Whatever I do (Whatever I do)

Hey Joe what you doing? They say you don't care anymore You had your heart broke by a woman Now it doesn't work anymore She said that you had it coming That you were no good from the start

Hey Joe Hey Joe Hey Joe It's time to go home

I'll look for you And I'll get you home Wherever you go Whatever you do I've got to find you I've got to find you (Whatever I do)

I'll look for you And I'll take you there Wherever you go Whatever you do I've got to find you Whatever I do (Whatever I do) Whatever I do (Whatever I do) Whatever I do (Whatever I do) Whatever I do (Whatever I do) Whatever I do (Whatever I do)

Hey Now What You Doing

Hey now what you doing Don't go down the road to ruin Look back at where you came from Count to ten before you go wrong

You had the brightest future Writing songs on your computer But you couldn't walk that extra mile And now your life is running wild

You've gotta hold your head up high You know it's not too late to try You've gotta lift that heavy load You've gotta get back in control

The things you say to me What is it that your eyes see Is it love or is it hate Banging on an open gate

Hey now, who's that with you What's that thing I saw him give you Turn round don't come no closer You took it from my shoulder holster

You've gotta hold your head up high You know it's not too late to try You've gotta lift that heavy load You've gotta get back in control

You've gotta hold your head up high You know it's not too late to try You've gotta lift that heavy load You've gotta get back in control

Why don't you put that gun right down Before you kill the love you found

Hey now what you doing (what you doing) Don't go down the road to ruin

Waiting For The Sirens' Call

What does this ship bring to me Far across the restless sea Waiting for the sirens' call I've never seen it here before

There she plies a lonely trade Cutting through the breaking waves Drifting slowly from her course She is lost forever more

We all want some kind of love But sometimes it's not enough To the wall and through the door With a stranger on the shore

I won't desert you I don't know what to say I really hurt you I nearly gave it all away

I've got it all wrong Cause you were not the wrong one And I don't know where to turn when you're gone When you're gone

Gotta catch the midnight train First to Paris then to Spain Travel with a document All across the continent

City life is flying by The wheels are turning all the while Get on board we can't be late Our destination cannot wait

All the stars and all the worlds Filling up this universe Could never be as close as us Will never shine as bright on us

I won't desert you I don't know what to say I really hurt you I nearly gave it all away

I've got it all wrong Cause you were not the wrong one And I don't know where to turn when you're gone When you're gone

I won't desert you I don't know what to say I really hurt you I nearly gave it all away

I've got it all wrong Cause you were not the wrong one And I don't know where to turn when you're gone

How many times must I lose my way, hey How many words do I have to say, hey What can I do just to make you see That you're so good for a man like A man like me

Krafty

Some people get up at the break of day Gotta go to work before it gets too late Sitting in a car and driving down the road That ain't the way it has to be

But that's what you do to earn your daily wage That's the kind of world that we're living in today Isn't where you wanna be And isn't what you wanna do

Just give me one more day (one more day) Give me another night (just another night) I need a second chance (second chance) This time I'll get it right (This time I'll get it right)

I'll say it one last time (one last time) I've gotta let you know (I've gotta let you know) I've got to change your mind (I've got to change your mind) I'll never let you go

You've gotta look at life the way it oughta be Looking at the stars from underneath a tree There's a world inside and a world out there With that tv you just don't care

They've got violence, wars and killing too All shrunk down in a two-foot tube But out there the world is a beautiful place With mountains, lakes and the human race And this is where I wanna be And this is what I wanna do

Just give me one more day (one more day) Give me another night (just another night) I need a second chance (second chance) This time I'll get it right (This time I'll get it right)

I'll say it one last time (one last time) I've got to let you know (I've got to let you know) I've got to change your mind (change your mind) I'll never let you go

Just give me one more chance (one more chance) Give me another night (just another night) With just one more day (one more day) Maybe we'll get it right (You know I'll get it right)

I'll say it one last time (one last time) I've got to let you know (I've got to let you know) If I could change your mind (change your mind) I'll never let you go

I Told You So

It's been ten long years since I've been home I've been waiting here with nowhere to go It's an occupation I don't like But it pays the rent and turns on the light (alright)

I told you so It has to be Cut loose and runaway with me We'll go out every night I'll be there by your side And we'll all get high down the old west side

If it ain't the job and it ain't the place But I must stay for your pretty face It's a bad reaction I can't fix You conned me with those feline tricks

And I told you so It's a crazy world For a mixed-up guy And a no-good girl

And I told you so It's a crazy world For a mixed-up guy With a no-good girl

(Take her, take the world)

I told you so It has to be Cut loose and run away (run away) with me We'll go out every night I'll be there by your side And we'll all get high down the old west side

Down the old west side Down the old west side Down the old west side (Take the world, yeah)

Morning Night And Day

One time didn´t do it Two times didn´t feel quite right I didn´t know where i was going I just knew that i would be alright

I woke up in a druken haze The sun shone through my window pane I said that i´d never do it again What kind of fool do you think i am?

It happens It always seems to happen Morning night and day I just want some action Give me satisfaction Send me to my fate Morning night and day

I had a good time late last night I didn´t think it would ever end I walked home in a broad day light Couldn´t get a cab at half past five

One drink wouldn´t do it Two drinks are far too much I didn´t know what i was doing I hit the floor in a pile of dust

It happens It always seems to happen Morning night and day I just want some action Give me satisfaction Send me to my fate Morning night and day

So if you think that it won´t get you Well think again friend 'cause it's not true In my case, it was not my fault Other people made that call

One time didn´t do it Two times didn´t feel quite right

It happens It always seems to happen No matter what i say Morning night and day I just want some action Need some satisfaction Before it gets too late Send me to my fate Morning night and day

Dracula’s Castle

What’s the matter here Something ain’t right Tell me it’s not true Tell me it’s all right

There was a time I’d run around for you Get down on my knees I swear it’s true But you came in the night And took my heart To Dracula’s castle in the dark

Now I’ve gotta tell you That you’ve gotta know I want you to stay but you’re gonna go Don’t leave me alone you'll tear me apart You’re in control (Don't break my heart)

So goodbye love You were not real You came to stay But now you leave I can’t explain The way you feel We once stood high But now we kneel

You can’t keep on running How far do you think you’d get? You've got the world if you want it I ain’t done with you yet

I work hard just to keep you by my side Every day and almost every night

In the end you took away my heart Left me alone (In the dark)

So goodbye love You were not real You came to stay But now you leave I can’t explain The way it feels We once stood high But now we kneel

So goodbye love You were not real You came to stay But now you leave I can’t explain The way it feels We once stood high But now we kneel

Jetstream

(It's only one more day)

Can you wait My plane will be arriving shortly Right there at the gate I pray that you'll be waiting right there for me

This time could be what We've both been searching for Our whole lives waking up I'm coming back for more

(Leave your baggage behind, you won't need it tonight, enjoy your flight)

J-E-T (J-E-T) You are so good for me (You are so good for me) You are my jetstream lover You're how I wanna be (Just how I wanna be baby)

J-E-T (J-E-T) You are so good for me (You are so good for me) You are my jetstream lover You're how I wanna be (Just how I wanna be baby)

We're so high I'm watching all the clouds drift by below me We should try It's been so long since I made you cry

Long Live Love I just can't get enough of you I need that engine's push It's gonna take me home to you

J-E-T (J-E-T) You are so good for me (You are so good for me) You are my jetstream lover You're how I wanna be (Just how I wanna be baby)

Guilt Is A Useless Emotion

Just another day in the week Waiting for an opportunity to step in front of me Maybe I'm losing my mind Searching for another place in another time

Real love can't be bought It is wild and it can't be caught Real love can't be sold It's another color than gold

(I need your love) I just wanna buy it (I need your love) Will you help me find it (I want your love) How can you deny it (I need your love) You've just gotta try it (I want you now) Something that you gotta know (I need you now) My love for you I wanna show (I want your love) I'm telling you that I belong (I need your love) You and me just can't go wrong

Standing on top of the world Thinking of the joy you bring when you do that thing to me You sure know a lot for a girl You could bring the good times back get me on the track

Real love can't be bought It is wild and it can't be caught Real love can't be sold It's another color than gold

I need your love) I just wanna buy it (I need your love) Will you help me find it (I want your love) How can you deny it (I need your love) You've just gotta try it (I want you now) Something that you gotta know (I need you now) My love for you I wanna show (I want your love) I'm telling you that I belong (I need your love) You and me just can't go wrong

You and me just can't go wrong You and me just can't go wrong You and me just can't go wrong You and me just can't go wrong

Turn

It's a hard way to come home You've got me on my knees The walls are tumbling down They're falling like the leaves

The days turned into months and years I can't forget that you were here I feel your presence everywhere In the corner over there

Turn your eyes from me It's time for me to go Across the hills and over the sea I want you more than you know

It's a wild world out there And nobody gives a damn In cold blood we don't care And we don't want to understand

I'm sitting here alone at night My sleepless eyes are open wide What do you want me to say What we had has gone away

The sky is high the road is long Show me what I should have done What do you want me to do Take it all away from you

Turn your eyes from me It's time for me to go Across the hills and over the sea I want you more than you know

Turn your eyes from me It's time for me to go Across the hills and over the sea I want you more than you know

Working Overtime

Who’s that over there Looks like he don’t care Almost lost his mind Too much working overtime

Gotta get out every night City gates are open wide Gotta get away from here Take that car and push that gear

He don’t need no one He’s the rising sun He won’t shed no tears Got no time to break down here

Hey

He’s going nowhere fast Just a piece of dirty trash All alone, by his self He don’t need nobody else

Walking down the street So much going on People everywhere Look at him but they don’t care

See that world out there Make it go away You can’t change his mind Too much working overtime

Hey Overtime Hey Overtime Hey Overtime Hey Overtime Hey Overtime Overtime Overtime Overtime

He crossed that picket line In trouble all the time Where did it all go wrong House music all night long

All those girls out there Looking for the one Do they really care Could they just be having fun

He did all he could Tried to get it right Somewhere he went wrong Too much working overtime

Hey Overtime Hey Overtime Hey Overtime Hey Overtime Hey Overtime Overtime Overtime Overtime

I did 2 changes to WFTSC...

"Travel without document" instead of "Travel with a document"

and "Cutting through the breaking winds" instead of "Getting through the breaking winds"

Make sense?

Thank you, Nic.:D

Spotnick wrote: First change, in WFTSC it's "Cutting through the breaking winds", not "Getting through".

Make sense?

I think it's "waves."

I think so too, but it's not evident...

So, "without document" instead of "with a document", and I replaced "winds" by "waves"...

Both makes sense actually..

"Breaking waves" makes more sense, but let others weigh in on this.

Maya will like the document change, but that's not what I hear.

Waiting For The Sirens' Call

What does this ship bring to me Far across the restless sea Waiting for the sirens call I've never seen it here before

I've got it all Cause you were not the one I don't know where to turn when you're gone When you're gone

Gotta catch the midnight train First to Paris then to Spain Travel with a document All across the continent

City life is flying by The wheels are turning all the while Get on board we can't be late Our destination cannot wait

All the stars and all the worlds Filling up this universe Can never be as close as us Will never shine as bright on us

I won't desert you I don't know what to say I really hurt you I nearly gave it all the way

I've got it all Cause you were not the wrong one I don't know where to turn when you're gone When you're gone

Is it me or is

Can never be as close as us

Sounds like

Can never be as close as her's ?

and the next line could also be

Will never shine as bright on her

I just looked in a dictionary and "plies his trade" was given as an example of "ply."

Indeed, Barney is actually being surprisingly clever with that word by using two of its meanings simultaneously.

And yet the guy couldn't do better than "in the corner over there"... :nonono:

As the synopsis of The Odyssey noted, even Homer nods.

Are we talking about shooting arrows through axe heads?

What else?

some other examples of "plies" taken from dictionary.com:

To traverse or sail over regularly: Trading ships plied the routes between coastal ports.

v. intr. To traverse a route or course regularly: The boat plies between the islands on a weekly schedule.

Nautical. To work against the wind by a zigzag course; tack

So "trail" would also be good there...

I guess we'll have our answer with the live version.

I'm 100% certain it's "plies a lonely trade" in keeping with the nautical reference. Plus, it comes through loud and clear on what I listen through. ;)

On Morning, Night, and Day it should be:

The sun shone through my window pane

and...

Send me to my fate

also...

"I ate the floor and a pile of dust" should be: "I hit the floor in a pile of dust."

ate the floor... :spit:

Also, who's to say that Barney will get the lyrics right live anyway? :evil4:

All live versions of Krafty says "gotta go to bank before it gets too late" instead of "work"... so Bernard is not really steady with his autocue ;)

"you conned my with those feline tricks" - I told you so

"will never shine as bright on us" - WFTSC

got loads more corrections (my interpretations???) to follow.

Who’s Joe?

Hey Joe what YOU doing? It seems like it's all going wrong There's a storm in the sky passing over And it looks like it's going to be strong You've got eyes like an old wounded soldier They cry tears to BE LOST in the wind

Hey Joe Hey Joe Hey Joe What YOU gonna do?

I looked for you I'll get you home Wherever you go Whatever you do I've got to find you I've got to find you (Whatever you do)

I looked for you I'll take you there Wherever you go Whatever you do I've got to find you Whatever I do (Whatever you do)

Hey Joe what YOU doing? They say you don't care anymore You had your BROKE by a woman Now it doesn't work anymore She said that you had it coming That you were no good from the start

TURN

... I want you more than YOU know ...

... with cold blood we don't care ..

Thanks, M.:)

I hope you won't conclude that I'm being particularly disagreeable, but one of those lines from Turn is a particularly hard one to make out. After giving it long consideration I've concluded it's as follows:

IT'S COLD but we don't care

In other words, I think the current lyrics are correct. The lyrics of Turn are in general very simple and pure and classical and non-colloquial. A phrase like "in cold blood" to me just would not fit. In addition, "it's cold" is what I hear.

What are your thoughts?:)

On the question of whether it's "but" or "then" before "I must stay for your pretty face" it seems as though I hear it differently every time I listen.

I only wish I could be more assistance. I am busy in the office today, and by appearing now and again I am only going to confuse matters. Already, I have tried to correct something that has already been sorted out, which is a waste of everyone’s time.

Perhaps I could come to assist if there is a lyric on which you can't agree. A third official role, if you like.

Being a lady, I will bring fairness and impartiality to the debate before agreeing with sister Babe!

Will have to reconsider all the lyrics again and post them later from the Serbian point of view ;)

Nic, obvious question: Are those chaps at Warners so lazy they don't even pass you some official lyrics sheets? Look, I understand as Rob Corless still hasn't passed his for Gabrielles Wish but you'd expect Warners to be a bit more professional... :nonono:

Hey Chant, I know it's fun figuring and everything, but we can always keep this thread going for people who don't want to read the official lyrics and meanwhile the rest of the world would read the correct ones... it would be fun if you wrote the Japanese translation too, or better, the translation back from Japanese to English. I remember the NME making such a thing years ago with a Public Enemy track, it was hilarious!

Cut loose and run away with me (....) and we all get high down the overside ? (Don't know if that's a correct english word)or is it other side pronounced a little bit different by B.

Hello chant; thanks for being interested and taking the time and trouble to share with us the lyrics from the Japanese release of WFTSC. I don't know that I'm necessarily prepared to accept those lyrics as the definitive answer on all questions, but they could certainly be helpful on points where we are having disagreements.:)

I thought we agreed that I would have the last word where there were disagreements?

You will, Big, you will, after you have taken into account all relevant factors, including, but not limited to, the Japanese lyrics. (I need to live up to DC's expectations of me concerning legal jargon.)

I am indebted to my honourable friend from the former colonies for his prompt and well-worded clarification.

Thank you, friend, for your very kind words. I try to do my best. It's not always good enough, but I don't think anyone could say I haven't tried.

I may disagree with some of the opinions you express, sir, but I would fight to the death to defend your right to express them.

hi Colin and all,

i've got my japanese version via hmv.co.jp and it does have japanese lyrics version of krafty, maybe you can check that in the discography section. i'm in UK at the moment as well and hmv.co.jp has english interface so there should be no problem at all. but you can ask me any questions if you encounter one.

as for the lyrics discussion, i've got something to say. i'm not a native speaker, as you see. i'm even from asia! i mean the first time i knew new order was when republic released.
i was in junior high school and i was just starting to learn english.
i started to buy western music albums when i was like ten or something around and i could hardly speak english then.
it was VERY SURPRISING to learn that some albums have no lyrics included in the booklet because all taiwanese albums have lyrics in them, including "greatest hits" that kind of albums.
so i was kind of sad that republic had no lyrics in it though the artwork was brilliant.

i liked republic, so when best of was out, i bought it. and again there was no lyrics! alright i liked the best of very much so i bought substance and i guess you know what happened.
when i tried to collect all their albums, i just found that they had no lyrics AT ALL.
but it doesn't matter because i really like their music, it's the best music i've ever heard ever and that was enough for me.
when i wanted to sing along, i just humbled and made up the lyrics i don't know.

when i grew older, probably in 1995 we had internet connection at home.
i was crazily looking for information about new order all over the net.
i found all the lyrics and made some corrections of my made-up lyrics, of course, most of them were wrong. too bad i didn't write them down coz they must be funny.
but i do remember seeing some interview saying that bernard doesn't like to give out the lyrics because that means you can read through his mind and it's better for everyone to interpret the song on his/ her own. when you are in different mood, you may even find out different lyrics in the same song. i really like that idea!

anyways, since barney change his lyrics all the time, the ones i provide based on japanese booklet is for reference only and keep on the discussion!

sorry for talking too much :p i really should shut up and start to write my report!

cheers, chant

according to the booklet from Japanese version.

The Canal+ recordings clearly reveal that Autocue is directing Barney to sing "I got it all wrong, for you were not the wrong one". This continued moving of the goalposts is not helping us one bit!

I should have phrased that differently. I agree with Maya on this point. After all, Big is the final arbiter on lyrics, and everything else as well.

nic, sorry that i didn't colour or make the words that are different bold from yours because i typed the lyrics myself in case of missing something to correct.

here's today's lyrics from japanese version booklet: (mmm.. but it seems like "LOAD" it is, maya.. incidentally, i like your "rhyme" point :))

HEY NOW WHAT YOU DOING

Hey now what you doing Don't go down the road to ruin Look back at where you came from Count to ten before you go wrong You had the brightest future Writing songs on your computer But you couldn't walk that extra mile And now your life is running wild

You've got to hold your head up high You know it's not too late to try You've got to lift that heavy load You've got to get back in control

The things you say to me What is it that your eyes see Is it love or is it hate Banging on an open gate

Hey now who's that with you What's that thing I saw him give you Turn round don't come no closer He took it from a shoulder holster

You've got to hold your head up high You know it's not too late to try You've got to lift that heavy load You've got to get back in control

[next page]

You've got to hold your head up high You know it's not too late to try You've got to lift that heavy load You've got to get back in control

Why don't you put that gun right down Before you kill the love you found

Hey now what you doing Don't go down the road to ruin

ps. seems to me it's like barney sings this song to that guy "Johnny" in 1963 before he got the gun :uhoh:

Mayu, it seems that there is one version in the Japanese booklet, and another version being sung live in the concerts. The word "wrong" is the thing that changes. The recording on the cd isn't very clear.

It's getting easier - nobody could understand any of the words on early albums. Barney is singing much more clearly these days!

Nic, listen to the Canal + version. The 'real' barney singing over the recorded one in the chorus sings

I got it all wrong Cause you were not the wrong one.

So we know what the Autocue thinks!

It's not at all clear on the cd.

Spotnick, I'd like to have one last go at convincing you that the words for WFTSC chorus are sung as:

I've got it all wrong Cause you were not the wrong one And I don't know where to turn when you're gone

Listen to the last time the chorus is sung - I'm sure that's what he sings. Also definatley sings that on the Canal+ recording, and (IMO) sounds like he's reading it.

You decide, I promise not to mention it again!

BTW, I still hear as follows on the Canal+ recording.

"Could never be as close as us" is definitly right on the cd but on the live redording I hear

Could never turn as bright as us ???

Will never shine as bright or good

I'll mention it! ;)

After a few fancy equlizer tricks, I was able to hear the "all wrong" part a little more clearly on the album version. It's blurred together but it's definitley in there. It just didn't sound right on the live version at first.

As mentioned, the lyric should be:

I got it all wrong Cause you were not the wrong one And I don't know where to turn when you're gone. When you're gone...

WAITING FOR THE SIRENS' CALL

What does this ship bring to me Far across the restless sea Waiting for the sirens' call I've never seen it here before

There she plies a lonely trade Cutting through the breaking waves Drifting slowly from her course She is lost forever more

We all wan't some kind of love But sometimes it's not enough To the wall and through the door With a stranger on the shore

I won't desert you I don't know what to say I really hurt you I nearly gave it all away I got it all wrong Cause you were not the one And I don't know where to turn when your gone When your gone

Got to catch a midnight train First to Paris then to Spain Travel with a document All across the continent

City life is flying by The wheels are turning all the while Get on board we can't be late

Our destination cannot wait

All the stars and all the worlds Filling up this universe Could never be as close as us We never shine as bright or good

I won't desert you I don't know what to say I really hurt you I nearly gave it all away I got it all wrong Cause you were not the one And I don't know where to turn when your gone When your gone

How many times must I loose my way How many words do I have to say What can I do just to make you see That your so good For a man like a man like me

ps. i think this one is really strange... first of all, the " ' " in the word "want" ( somebody tell me what's that called please :)) and it keeps using "your gone" when it should be "you're gone," right? and "loose" my way.. i think it's grammatical correct but i think "lose" my way makes much more sense. but since it's from warner japan, it's official anyway.. again it's just for reference only. ( oh i really love the nearly end part of the song.. )

apostrophe

btw, might be good, but the japanese lyrics are never official, so you take it and leave it, it's people doing the exact same thing we're doing right now.

I believe Bentley's EQlized version can't lie, but if he does sing "wrong", it's merged with one so good.

But yes, it's definitively what is said in the live version.

And Jetstream's push updated as well.

'I won't desert you'

Chant, this is one of those strange exceptions to the strange rules that the English language has to upset people who are trying to learn it!

Basically, as I am sure you know, an apostrophe (which is the name of the ' sign) is used when two words are combined to make on.

Can not = can't Do not = don't

The apostrophe is used instead of the missing letters.

Another example would be you are = you're (as in 'you're gone') so you’re right about that one!

I don’t see the word wan’t in the text, but I can see won’t. Is this what you mean?

Following the above rule 'will not' would be shortened to 'willn't'. It's not though, we use 'won't'. The apostrophe is still used though – for reasons I can't explain.

'Loose' means the opposite of tight and lose is the opposite of find. Fairly sure that 'lose my way' is correct here (Chant 2 – Japanese Sleeve Notes 0)

I’m sorry if I sound patronising in explaining this to you like that. I'm not trying to be at all. You obviously have a very good grasp of English, and I know how frustrating these silly rules can be even to a native! I hope I have made it a bit clearer, anyway.

Another obvious difference in the Japanese lyrics is the word 'hey' in the line 'How many times must I lose my way, Hey'. Even though it probably has no meaning, I’m sure it should be included in the lyrics, in order to correctly represent the way the song is performed. I like to think that he is singing the word 'eh' here, but that's just me…

I’m glad to have an ally in my campaign to have the second 'wrong' in the chorus recognised by the forum. Looking at the meaning of the song, the chorus would make no sense if it wasn’t there.

The song is about a man who has rejected his lover, because he thought that she was the 'wrong on' for him. Later, he realises that he has made a mistake and wants her back. He got it all wrong, she wasn’t the 'wrong one' after all.

I know I said I wouldn’t mention this again, but as it affects the meaning of the chorus in one of the best songs on the new album, I think I may be justified.

I can think of a possible explanation for the difference in the Japanese book. Perhaps you can help me with it.

The line 'you are not the wrong one' contains two negatives. In English, these negatives have the effect of cancelling one another out. NOT cancels out WRONG, and the line means 'you were the right one'. I seem to remember that some languages would not recognise two negatives to cancel one another out, they reinforce one another. The line would therefore mean 'You really were not the one'.

Perhaps someone has chosen to leave this word out of the Japanese booklet in order not to confuse English-speaking Japanese people.

It could also be a mistake. As we have seen, it's not the only one in this song!

Great work, Chant :thumb:

"to my window pane" versus "through my window pane" on track 6. Big, do you want to take this up?

Well, anything with a window must be through not "to" anyways... I haven't listened to it and it makes sense already!

Wait a minute :skeptic: it's already through in my copy, so you think it should be "to" ?

thanks Colin!:thumb:

you explained very clearly that i wish you were my english teacher 12 years ago! :p well yeah learning another language is never easy for me, and for most people in taiwan obviously. even though i can post here, i still don't understand a lot when two native speakers are chatting.. i'm lucky that i used to listened to a lot of brit-pop bands when i was learning english in the first place so i learned the usages and new words ( like two negatives make it positive- but actually it's the same in chinese it's just that people still don't get it when it's in a foreign language.) pretty quickly. but to be honest it's the american english taught in taiwan so though i've tried my best to learn british english on my own, i'm still more familiar with american accent at the moment... well, i should stop being off-topic now.

the "wan't" is in the line "We all wan't some kind of love" and you'll see it when you get the japanese version. when i heard the line "you were not the wrong one" i didn't consider if it makes sense or not at all, i just heard it and that's it!! besides after your explanation i like this idea even more so i'll stick to "you were not the wrong one" on my own version of WftSC :) [but i also knew that sometimes two negative can be negative in some infomal uses... like "i ain't got no money" means i really don't have any money and the famous stones' "i can't get no satisfaction" means he doesn't feel satisfied... mmmm english can be really confusing sometimes!] sorry i can't help you out on your assumption because in chinese double negative means positive as well and i don't know what is it about in japanese... maybe mayu can help us on this one? :)

i didn't realise that it was not an official lyrics (see i can use doble negative :p) and i decided to find out the differences based on nool's version here and highlight the differences from now on.

Chant, for your request... if I need to translate words of the booklet into English.

We all wan't some kind of love

"everybody really want some kind of love" (the person who translated into Japanese just ignored the apostrophes. This means the person who wrote the English words on the booklet is not the same person.)

Cause you were not the one

"off course, it's not your fault." (She(Yukiko Kojima, who's known as a big NO fan) didn't translate just as it says, but I think this is what Bernard meant to say.)

I don't know if this helps you, but hey, at least the booklet is not always right, isn't it?

alright, time for today's japanese version booklet lyrics:

KRAFTY

Some people get up at the break of day GOT TO go to work before it gets too late Sitting in a car and driving down the road That ain't the way it has to be But that's what you do to earn your daily wage That's the kind of world that WE LIVE IN today BUT IS IT where you wanna be? And IS IT what you wanna do?

Just give me one more day (one more day) Give me another night (just another night) I need a second chance (second chance) This time I'll get it right (This time I'll get it right)

I'll say it one last time (one last time) I've got TO let you know (I've got TO let you know) I've got to change your mind (CHANGE YOUR MIND)

[next page]

I'll never let you go

You GOT TO look at life the way it OUGHT TO be Looking at the stars from underneath a tree There's a world inside and a world out there With that tv you just don't care They GOT violence wars and KILLIN' too All shrunk down in a 2FT tube But out there the world is a beautiful place With mountains, lakes and the human race

And this is where I wanna be And this is what I wanna do

Just give me one more day (one more day) Give me another night (just another night) I need a second chance (second chance) This time I'll get it right (This time I'll get it right)

I'll say it one last time (one last time) I've got to let you know (I've got to let you know) I've got to change your mind (change your mind) I'll never let you go

Just give me one more chance (one more chance) Give me another night (just another night) With just one more day (one more day) Maybe we'll get it right (MAYBE WE'LL get it right)

I'll say it one last time (one last time) I've got to let you know (I've got to let you know) If I CAN change your mind (change your mind) I'll never let you go

ps. it seems like the all the "gotta" or "oughta" are "got to" and "ought to" here. and i can't really tell the difference between killing and killin', or anything ends with ing and in'

Thanks again very much for your help and hard work, chant.

Personally, I prefer the printed lyrics to reflect what the singer actually says. So when BS says "gotta" I'd rather the printed lyrics said "gotta" as well.

i was trying to post one more song in order to celebrate that Maya got her visa.. :D but i couldn't make another post ( server too busy) after the first one yesterday. i tried several times then gave up.. so here are the two songs today :)

japanese booklet lyrics:

I Told You So

It's been ten long years since I've been home I've been waiting here with nowhere to go It's an occupation I don't like But it pays the rent and turns on the light

I told you so It has to be Cut loose and RUNAWAY with me We'll go out every night I'll be there by your side

[next page]

And WE ALL get high down the old west side

If it ain't the job and it ain't the place But I must stay for your pretty face It's a bad reaction I can't fix You CAUGHT me with those feline tricks

And I told you so It's a crazy world For a MIXED UP guy And a NO GOOD girl And I told you so It's a crazy world For a MIXED UP guy With a NO GOOD girl

I told you so It has to be Cut loose and RUNAWAY with me We'll go out every night I'll be there by your side And WE ALL get high down the old west side

Down the old west side Down the old west side Down the old west side Down the old west side

ps. runaway should be typo coz it's a noun.. and i think the hyphens in mixed up and no good make them adj., so there should be the hyphens.

Morning Night And Day

One time didn't do it Two times didn't feel quite right I didn't know where i was going I just knew that i would be ALL RIGHT I woke up in a druken haze The sun shone through my window pane I said that I WOULD never do it again What kind of fool do you think i am

It happens It always seems to happen Morning night and day I just want some action Give me satisfaction Send me to my fate Morning night and day

[next page]

I had a good time late last night I didn't think it would ever end I walked home in a broad day light Couldn't get a cab at half past five One drink wouldn't do it Two drinks WERE far TO much I didn't know what i was doing I hit the floor in a pile of dust

It happens It always seems to happen Morning night and day I just want some action Give me satisfaction Send me to my fate Morning night and day

So if you think that it won't get you THINK again friend cause it's JUST not true In my case it was not my fault Other people made that call One time didn't do it Two times didn't feel quite right

It happens It always seems to happen No matter what i say Morning night and day I just want some action Need some satisfaction Before it gets TO late Send me to my fate Morning night and day

ps. two typos, "to much" and "to late"

pps. i think "two drinks were far too much" makes more sense coz it's one drink "wouldn't" do it, so it should be the past tense.. although i can't hear is it "are" or "were".. i just hear "two drinks far too much"

in fact i was wondering if there's such a usage "double negative" in japanese, but it's interesting to know the translation is not exactly the same!! sounds like it's the translater's own interpretation rather than the author's (bernard) original idea. it's always nice to see others interpretation but i don't think it's a good idea to do the translation... anyways thank you very much for your translation and i should learn japanese soon! Haven't really listened to the live version so I can't contest what he sang live but the recorded lyric is shrunk. Strung doesn't make any sense as it's a reference to watching televsion rather that enjoying the beauty of the world around you. Maybe he needs a bigger auto cue?

hi all,

here's today's japanese booklet lyrics:

Dracula's Castle

What's the matter here Something ain't right Tell me it's not true Tell me it's all right

There was a time I'd run around for you Get down on my knees I swear it's true But you came in the night

[next page]

And took my heart To Dracula's castle in the dark Now I've GOT TO tell you That you've GOT TO know I WAN'T you to stay but you're gonna go Don't leave me alone DON'T tear me apart You're in control DON'T BREAK MY HEART

So goodbye love You were not real You came to stay But now you leave I can't explain The way you feel We once stood high But now we kneel

You can't keep on running**...** How far do you think you'll get? You've got the world if you want it I ain't done with you yet

I WORKED hard just to keep you by my side Every day and almost every night In the end you took away my heart Left me A LONER IN THE DARK

So goodbye love You were not real You came to stay But now you leave I can't explain The way YOU FEEL We once stood high But now we kneel

So goodbye love You were not real You came to stay But now you leave I can't explain The way YOU FEEL We once stood high But now we kneel

ps. in this song i prefer two lines here... firstly i do hear "don't break my heart" after "you're in control" so it should be added, and i also do hear "in the dark" in the sentence "Left me A LONER IN THE DARK" so i think "in the dark" should be added as well.

i really like this song. kinda reminds me dream attack here, the drum loop and the synth i guess. and seems like barney really works hard coz it's not the first time he mentions it :p

cheers,

chant

no problem! but what i post is the original lyrics printed on the booklet, i made no change at all- no matter it's right or wrong- there are several typos too, but i just want to post them all for your references :)

"wan't" also appeared on WftSC and i think maybe the guy who types the lyrics typed too many "won't, wouldn't, don't, didn't, wasn't, weren't..." stuff like that so whenever there is an "nt" s/he would automatically add an apostrophe between them. like my friend once wrote "studen't" instead of "student" in the occupation field. :p

to Patrick, yeah i think it may be "alone in the dark" but i think i hear a "ner" sound so i'm not sure if it's alone or a loner... in fact i seldom hear people say loner so maybe alone it is then. [again what i typed is what is originally printed in the booklet and i made no change to it at all :)]

Thanks, chant. A "loner" is someone who chooses to be alone, so it seems out of place here.

ps. except some typos like "you're - your," "be home - behome," it's pretty much the same. only two tenses are different: "you are/ were meant to be" and "how will/ would you know." what i hear is "you are" and the rest one i'm not sure about barney's but i think ana sings "will" so they should be the same. and it seems that they don't count the spoken words as lyrics..

that's what i can think of what i've posted.

japanese booklet lyrics of the day..

Guilt Is A Useless Emotion

Just another day in the week Waiting for an opportunity to step in front of me Maybe I'm losing my mind Searching for another place in another time

Real love can't be bought It is wild and it can't be caught Real love can't be sold It's another colour than gold

I need your love I just want to buy it I need your love Will you help me find it I want your love How can you deny it I need your love You've just got to try it

I want you now It's something that youv'e got to know I need you now My love for you I want to show I want your love I'm telling you that I belong I need your love You and me just can't go wrong

I'm standing on top of the world Thinking of the joy you bring when you do that thing to me You sure know a lot for a girl You could bring the good times back

[next page]

get me on the track

Real love can't be bought It is wild and it can't be caught Real love can't be sold It's another colour than gold

I need your love I just want to buy it I need your love Will you help me find it I want your love How can you deny it I need your love You've just got to try it

I want you now It's something that youv'e got to know I need you now My love for you I want to show I want your love I'm telling you that I belong I need your love You and me just can't go wrong

I need your love I need your love I need your love

I need your love I just want to buy it I need your love Will you help me find it I want your love How can you deny it I need your love You've just got to try it

I want you now It's something that youv'e got to know I need you now My love for you I want to show I want your love I'm telling you that I belong I need your love You and me just can't go wrong

You and me just can't go wrong You and me just can't go wrong You and me just can't go wrong You and me just can't go wrong

ps. typos here are these "youv'e"s. and again except "want to" and (you've) "got to" the two versions are basically the same.
(there's also a spelling difference: they use colour instead of color.) also they have**"It's"** before "something that you gotta know" and "I'm" before "standing on top of the world."

a word is mistakenly typed here in the NOOL version: It is wild and it can't be cought should be "caught" shouldn't it?

today's japanese booklet lyrics:

Turn

It's a hard way to come home You've got me on my knees The walls are tumbling down They're falling like the leaves

The days turn into months and years I can't forget that you were here I feel your presence everywhere In the corner over there

Turn your eyes from me It's time for me to go Across the hills and over the sea I want you more than you know It's a wild world out there And nobody gives a damn In cold blood we don't care And we don't want to understand

I'm sitting here alone at night My sleepless eyes are open wide What do you wan't me to say What we had has gone away

The sky is high the road is long Show me what I should have done What do you want me to do Take it all away from you

Turn your eyes from me It's time for me to go Across the hills and over the sea I want you more than you know

Turn your eyes from me It's time for me to go Across the hills and over the sea I want you more than you know

ps. only one minor difference: the days turn/ turned. others are exactly the same! ( 'cept one typo) another drum loop that reminds me of dream attack..

pps. my easter's over... but i really don't want to go to lectures tomorrow :( but i finally got the confirm from glastonbury that i got the tickets! yeah~ two days of new order!!!

The Arthur Baker remix has it loud and clear, so it's right on.

sorry i was busy with my coursework so didn't submit the lyrcis yesterday. here's the last one from japanese booklet lyrics. by the way, Colin, you should get your copy of the japanese version cd, right? :)

Working Overtime

Who's that over there Looks like he don't care Almost lost his mind Too much working overtime

Got to get out every night City gates are open wide

[next page]

Got to get away from here Take that car and push that gear

He don't need no one He's a rising sun He won't shed no tears Got no time to break down here

He's going nowhere fast Just a piece of dirty trash All alone by his self He don't need nobody else

Walking down the street So much going on People every where Look at him but they don't care

See that world out there Make it go away You can't change his mind Too much working overtime

Overtime Overtime Overtime Overtime Overtime Overtime Overtime Overtime

He crossed that picket line In trouble all the time Where did it all go wrong House music all night long

All those girls out there Looking for the one Do they really care Or could they just be having fun

He did all he could Tried to get it right Somewhere he went wrong Too much working overtime

Overtime Overtime Overtime Overtime Overtime Overtime Overtime Overtime

that's all.. :)

cheers,

chant

In the Japanese Booklet it reads "All shrunk down in a 2FT tube".

Ladies and gentlemen, in WFTSC Barney is actually referring to one siren only, although the name of the album doesn't say so, therefore he sings: Waiting for the siren's call, I've never seen HER here before.

Take a listen and judge yourself. :thumb:

Interesting, M. Another possibility is that the name of the ship is "The Sirens" or "Sirens" and the reference to "her" is simply the conventional use of the feminine pronoun for any ship.

P, do you also hear "I've never seen HER here before"?

I will have to get back to you on that, M. I haven't really been focusing on the lyrics that much lately. But the way you have it is certainly a possibility.

I'm afraid I hear "IT" rather than "HER" in this line, M.

I'm afraid you're right, P. Still I think "her" would fit better in that line.

I agree with that, M. "Her" would fit better. Maybe he wanted to avoid saying "her here."

"her here" well, it's not that hard for me to say it

What I meant was perhaps he thought it would sound jarring.

P, could you use another word for "jarring", please, just to make it more easier for me to understand?

Awkward. "Her" and "here" are so similar.

Thanks, P, I understand now. :)

Any time, M. What do you think of my possible explanation?

I agree "The Sirens" or perhaps "The Sirens' call" is a name of a ship, the same one bringing something to Barney. "The Sirens' call" - is it a good name for a ship anyway?

I think under this view the "call" would be the arrival of the ship.

Exactly my thoughts, P. :)

In english ships are female, hence "her".

He sings I never seen it here before IMO

Yes, yes, you are absolutely right. ;) I figured it out after couple of listening to that line only. I think we all know the lyrics by now, still I find it was very amusing trying to get them right. :)

By "we," I hope you don't mean Barney as well. ;)

The first 2 times I listened to Who's Joe, I thought it was "hey, Joe, what you're doing? It seems like kids are going wild"

So any change I might have missed?

I think it's time to unstick this monster... but I want to make sure I didn't forget anything...

Yeah but it's sirens', so it should more more than one her...

Again with the apostrophe ;)

I think M and I discussed this point, Nic. My theory is that the name of the ship is "The Sirens." So it's a single ship with a plural name.

In WFTSC "I've never seen IT here before" not HER. M and I agreed on this.

Definitely IT.

DRACULA'S CASTLE : You forgot to add You're in control (Don't break my heart)

and Left me alone (In the dark)

Too late. Chant already did it! ;) Haven't read all the pages, eh?

Of course I did ! That's why I noticed that these words are not added in the lyrics that you can find in the "song browser" of this site...

And I've just noticed that Spotnick forgot also in "Guilt"

It is wild and it can't be caught instead of "cought"

We now have quite a few corrections to Run Wild - here or separate thread?
