And please be honest, I'm evaluating if we did the right thing with this new host.

I'll second that!

I think I prefer the old server. There was something endearing about the way it used to disappear for days on end.

Leave it to H to be contrary.

It's much nicer to look for NOOL confident that it'll actually be there. :)

Apart from this morning's error messages - Sod's Law Strikes Again ;)

It seems perfect so far :thumb: [edit update: for the first time since the new server is up, now it is very slow, a page takes about one minute to load] The only problem is sometimes when I'm on the forum my Internet connection stop and I have to start it again. I think it might be a stupid dialer trying useless to force a connection to their server from my system. The twats don't know that I have a DSL connection that can go only through the line to my ISP and have turned off the old 56k modem. But it's strange that it happens only when I'm on this forum, never when I'm doing something else. I gotta find some time to scan the disk with my AV and find the little bastard, then I'll let you know if it's sorted.

There was a lock tonight, I had to reset the machine... first time ever that happens.

I'll have to check if it's the search engines as I suspect.

I have rebooter the server, funny how this is happening the exact minute I'm asking people if everything is ok.

I need to find what the hell is causing this... is it a search engine trying to hit all the damned pages at once or somebody who is trying to hack us....

Bells and whistles......

Not really... it's usually due to a process in the FORUMS that runs forever.

So my guess is that this happens when a search engine is scanning the forum, hence making a lot of requests.

I didn't change a thing in one week on the site, and yet this didn't happen until yesterday evening.

Everything worked fine (nothing slow etc.) until yesterday (5/11) when I got "server application error /" message that indicated there was too much traffic.

I got in today no problems. So if you made changes between then and now, it appeared to work. If you didn't make any changes, then the problem may still be in the system.

Odd that the problems happened when you asked the question - perhaps there is a hacker, perhaps someone not happy with all the changes to the site and expressing disatisfaction in an unconventional manner.

I don't know, but I have to find it...

Seriously, I didn't change 1 single thing since yesterday, and suddenly, the server starts to hang..

This is pissing me off. At least I have access to the server, so I can reset it manually.

I don't know if you did anything, Nick, but the pace is getting back to normal warp speed now.:thumb:

I am resetting this thing often right now... tonight I'll work on a thing or two to optimize the damned forum.

nobody missed it, but it's back, and speed decreases rapidly:

Let me say it this way... this error happens when there are 5000 requests in the request queue..

So that is a lot of people asking for a page.

Basically it's because some requests are taking too much time (and it's mostly the forums)

I have no idea why it suddenly appeard back last night, while it work working fine since we were up.

So I'm seriously thinking about a denial of service attack on NOOL... I simply don't see anything else...

I'm getting my nick error with a "server too busy" all the day. Now it seems fine.

FUCKIN' SLOW!

Even for a Canadian site :evil4:

Coming from a Brazilian, I guess the situation is bad.

Maybe we should rename the website:

RUINED IN A DAY A NEWORDER WEBSITE

I get the subscribed messages through E Mail without ANY formatting, not even line breaks... I just can see the code when there's any. The server seems to work now though...
