...maybe that's the reason why the whole "Cut Here" single sounds very much like NewOrder :D ...but it's a great tune, i really like it...

what about the album THE TOP? Track 3 what's called Wailing Wall? If that ain't a Joy Division rip I do not know what is. But hey, I like it quite a bit truthfully. Like that whole album.

...yes, i agree, "The Top" is The Cure's weirdest and in my opinion, their most interesting album... cheers :D

Anyone who's seen "A Forest" or "Play for Today" videos can back me up on this: Very briefly Robert Smith went without makeup, and in these videos he looks like he's conciously trying to look like JD. I remember my first reaction upon hearing the "Seventeen Seconds" lp...the Cure are definitely going for the JD sound. Compare that to their first album, much more poppy and also pre-Unknown Pleasures, and there's (to me) an obvious influence.

Cure-related news: was scanning the "year in review" Alt. Press, The Cure was elected to the hall of fame, beating out (amongst others) Joy Division. Let's start a grass-roots campaign to get JD voted in next year :D

Seventeen Seconds is my favorite Cure LP. What about that Moby rip in Player in the League? That's a little more disgusting than ripping off JD.

Not heard that Cure newie as yet - I'm not even sure if it was officially released over here in UK as a single. But then the last few Cure singles have done sod all chartwise so it way well have stiffed around the 60's or 70s again. I know their Greatest Hits LP wasn't that big a seller either, but I think that has as much to do with the Cure's dwindling fanbase here in Britain as with the inescapable fact that they have brought out FAR TOO MANY compilations and live LPs in their career. At last count they've issued FIVE live LPs and SIX compilations - exactly HALF of the number of albums they've ever released in total. Bit excessive methinks.

The Fall have issued 137 compilation LPs and 286 live records though ! None of them have Dresden remixes though - obviously MES couldn't sing in tune.....

that sound comes from a song on Play...got popular but i cant remember the title...sampled lyrics said "hey, hey woman...."

i think it was Natural Blues that has the sound that comes in at 1:02 on Player...it could just be a similar sound but it's obvious where the inspiration came from once you hear it - as for the cure, i bought my friend the newest hits compilation on DVD and watched a bit of it on chrismas eve. it's a shame they left off Jumping Someone Else's Train because its a neat video and Charlotte Sometimes because it's my favorite cure song. should have been a complete video retrospective with In Orange as a bonus disc.

If you want the best Cure videos, you'll have to go back to the Staring at the Sea video. That has some of the best they've ever done (as well as some amusing moments, but more on that later)...:D

I remember when The Cure played Cornwall in 1983 at St Austell - "Elephant Fayre" was the name of the event -Robert Smith had sacked his old band from a year back and was trying to reinvent himself - this was when he put out "The Walk" which a lot of people accused of being a New Orderr rip off (blue Monday) - so he plays a set of new stuff which he'd been doing with a bunch of hired hands. Lawrenc Tolhurst was now on keyboards and the drummer was some guy from an eighties funk/blues band or somethin. Funnmily enough - that was the last time I ever saw the Cure - as my interest in them had all but diminished by then....I actually thought they'd split up for good after that last tour. They did some good songs though - most notably the Pornography album tracks and "Shake Dog SHake" and "Give Me IT" which ended up on their rubbish "Top" album.

I've a recording of this gig, strange line-Up, but some cool versions of songs, especially "Lament" sounded pretty nice... :D
