New Order out of the top 40

Charts are what will help Warner releasing the 2006 album though... and maybe others, who knows.
They might be bullshit, but I still think New Order has the potential to score a Top 10 hit single that will actually climb in the charts instead of vanisning so far you don't even notice it.
funny thing. Blue monday went 9th and stayed on charts for a long, long time byt Krafty went 8th and vanished, things changed since that.
I'm also not impressed by the charts. But I'm biased - a lot of the music I like never makes the charts.
True enough though - one of the singles making some sustained noise on the charts would help get the label behind putting the next album out, promoting this and the next album, and perhaps (dare I say) more US tour dates when (or is that if?) they tour again.

And WFTSC is today's No. 34 album on iTunes (US). Not bad, seeing as the CD isn't out here for another two weeks and is getting zero advance airplay (well, one spin in Georgia, reportedly).
As Steve Morris said himself (albeit 20 years ago when it was cool to rebel, and pensions were thing sold people had) "if you believe in the charts then you might as well believe in fairies".
I suspect that they may be slightly disappointed at Warner HQ that the escalated publicity they have done this year hasn't been reflected in considerably increased sales. Maybe they are banking on the Ana Matronic connection to shift units in a month's time, and obviously the summer festivals will shift units as well. The band have certainly put the interview hours in this time around, never seen so much publicity, and they are playing all the biggest gigs in all the countries where they sell (with the notable exception of Brazil, obviously). They are doing what they can, and it is a fairly demanding schedule they've set themselves, nobody could accuse them of sitting back and expecting the cash to roll in!
You'd imagine, though, that the recent rash of publicity will have bolstered sales of their back catalogue while the mixed reviews for their new offering might have dissuaded punters from buying WFTSC....????
they we're all over the place before the album came out, tv shows top of the pops etc, then the single and album came out and they vanished,
surely they'd be on tv trying to push it abit, maybe thats why it dropped so quick.

I can only attribute that unfortunate occurrence to three things:
- the shelf-life of most chart products these days
- the promotional video, which did the song or the band no favours
- the sad fact that whatever level of alcohol Bernard needs to calm his stagefright these days now makes him appear to be a shaky drunk onstage, as per the NME awards and TOTP performances, and his live singing doesn't make you want to go out and buy all their back catalogue if that is your first impression of Godlike Genius!!!

cant agree with you more on your points. I never heard the song on the radio or the video played on any music channels. I knew the album would bomb out of the charts. Compare it to The Killers - i dont think this has been out of the top 40 for over a year and theyre still releasing singles off it!!!

The album is out in the U.S. on April 26 - only one week away, not two.
yeah i thought that .soon as the album came out they went quiet.i guess they were promoting it back in feb & march because it had leaked and was in a sense already out.plus they are surely rehearsing these days for the gigs.
