Anyone recall a 12"Promo with Temptation/Ceremony?

Back in college there was a vinyl I basically wore out (I shoulda just nabbed it before I graduated, but I guess I thought my cassette dub of it would be fine - i was a fool!) of a 12 that had Temptation on one side - the full length original 12" version, and Ceremony - the full length 12" original version. The Temptation side jacket cover had the normal blue splattery art, but the ceremony side had orange splattery art that mirrored the Temptation side. My recollection is that there were no words on the front/back of this jacket, just the art - might be why it was never stolen before, no one knew what the heck it was lol.

Years later, after listening to my dubbed cassette into hissosity, I've procured the Temptation track on CD - it was identical to the EP version. But the Ceremony track still sounds a bit different than the vinyl i recently picked up, which has a white cover and a blue stripe. I read up that there are 4 different versions of the original 12" floating around? Anyhow someday I'll find a decent recording on CD of it hopefully.

Back on topic- anyone have the double/A remix promo vinyl of Temptation/Ceremony that I'm talking about?

There are 2 versions of Ceremony the origianl green one, and then the later blue & white one with Gillian, which also is on Substance, etc.

Also there are 2 versions of Temptation; the single and ep version and the re-recorded version for Substance. The original is availiable on Retro.

Don't know about that record you saw. That would probably be a quite rare sampler of sorts.

ah that's it- the version i have from that promo vinyl must be the "green cover" 12" version of ceremony.

rats i shoulda swiped it 15 years ago!

Are you sure you're not confusing Cermony with Hurt?

It was most definitely Ceremony. My crappy dubbed tape tells no lies, I still have remnants of evidence that it was most certainly Ceremony.

The cover you describe is merely the standard Temptation twelve inch. Isn't it possible your tape was dubbed from 2 different twelve inches?

but i was the one doing the dubbing, and there was only one record! my college radio station had that, plus alot of rare vinyl. they got some nice promo cds too, like the 1-disc compilation of depeche mode's boxset.

As Andy mentioned, the cover you described is that standard Temptation 12" with Hurt on the B-side.

T's Discography

I don't know anyone who's mentioned a promo version of Temptation/Ceremony previously and there's nothing listed in any discography. This doesn't mean it doesn't exist (it could be a misspress for instance) but I'm wondering if perhaps you're confusing different releases.

Also, another cover variation of the Ceremony 12" exists, an Italian pressing with a bronze cover similar to the standard 7".

Yes that was definitely the back of the cover -

So I guess that usually would be "Hurt." But I swear it was Ceremony. Well it has been 15 years so maybe my memory is fading on my history of taping promos from the radio station? Could be...

That is not a promo...

That's the 12" of Temptation b/w Hurt

In the early 80's many barely legal Italian pressing plants would throw out all manner of weird and wonderful 12" single combinations but I reckon memories are starting to fail some of us now and as a result you're simply confusing yourself on this one...

Yeah I guess confusion abounds. Nevermind, I guess I'll just have to go back there on my 15th reunion and bum rush the radio station just to satisfy my curiosity...

It could be a misspress, someone's own pressing, an obscure DJ service release, or a simple bootleg. I doubt that it is anything official.

Obviously, previous unknown collectibles pop up every now and then, but these old, seminole classics wouldn't be sent to just a US college station as a promo from the label without any collectors knowing about it.

I'd like to see it before I believe it.

PRO-A-3037 12" - is it worth it to get ?...

12": US 1988 (Qwest PRO-A-3037) [promo] 7:27 Blue Monday (club mix) *** 7:02 Touched by the Hand of God (remix) 5:30 Touched by the Hand of God (dub version)

Well that 7:27 time doesn't match up exactly with any of the 12" mixes of Blue Monday 1988. So who knows, maybe it's a different mix? Only conjecture unless someone takes the plunge!

It's the BM83 version (7:29). Is it worth it? Well, ask the question in the WiM@eBay-thread :)
