Anyone know if NO are still using drugs? I had read that those days are behind them, (minus the booze of course,) Just wondering- these guys are going to be 50 soon and all married w/ families, right? Anyone know if Bernard is still married? (No I am not a stalker fan, just curious. I'm married myself.)

Cheers, Veronica

The more I listen to the new album, I am disappointed by the quality of the lyrics...If Drugs had anything to do with the cool mystery, abstract appeal of thier(pre Get Ready) lyrics ... I think some of our South American fans should ship Barney some of theie grade A coke. WTSC is brilliant musically....but is somewhat ruined by the useless lyrics, such as on "guilt is a useless emotion..." ...when I cringe at the moment they sing the chorus.

New Order have never been known for having overtly meanigful lyrics...BUT there was a certain lyrical quirkyness to their earlier catalogue that made New Order stand out.

I enjoy the Japanese version of Krafty so much more because I don't know what Barney is saying.

Barney may indeed still be on drugs, but it's not true that you have to be on them to act zany.

Despite GR-era interviews where Barney said they were much healthier and they'd scaled back on all the drugs and alcohol, there's plenty of anecdotal evidence suggesting they still enjoy a dip. Before and after gigs especially, I'd suspect.

Ive got no idea who in NO is married and who isnt. They are rather private people and not the sort to have their weddign photos published in Hello magazine.

As to the drinks and drugs, I would suspect that they still take them but not as much as they use to. As Behind Closed Doors says: "Please dont take my drugs away, Im gonna give them up someday", righto Barney.

And furthermore, an experienced drug user can often disguise the fact that he has taken drugs by refraining from such zany acts. I have always been happy with NOs stance on drink and drugs. They have refrained from the nudge-nudge innuendo that some bands hide behind, while normally avoiding attempts to glamorise or exaggerate the importance of drugs in their lives. Don't forget that they were at the heart of a scene where drug use was expected rather than accepted for much of their careers. In some social circles, a casual comment about ecstasy, cocaine or LSD would be far less shocking that the revelation that one had consumed two bottles of Pernod, for example. I feel that New Order's stance has been driven by their own honesty and relaxed attitude, rather than a desire to cultivate a particular image. The careers and lives of some of the most successful figures in pop have been utterly ruined by drugs. Despite some impressive hangovers, and a few regrettable performances, New Order seem to have escaped this fate.

Now if you will excuse me, I am off for some sandwiches...

I think it is their image, but not true.

In an interview a few weeks ago Hooky mentioned that Barney is not married, but he lives with his girlfirend for 17 years now (they have three children). I try to find ut where I read that...

Here it is... http://www.musik.terrorverlag.de/musik/interviews/index.php?musik\_interview\_archiv=221&orderBy=datum&anzeige= It is in german...

"Jaja, wir haben erst gestern noch darüber gesprochen, dass er mit seiner jetzigen Freundin – die beiden sind immer noch nicht verheiratet – mittlerweile 15... 17 Jahre zusammen ist. Sie haben drei Kinder miteinander..."

I try to translate: "Yesterday we talked about his relationship. He is together with his girlfriend - they are still not married - about 15... 17 years. They have three children."

As I know it is one of the women who appear in the "Round & Round"-Viedo (would fit the time period).

It's a tricky one this question. Are NO still on drugs??? Hmm let me think. Well going by the recent award acceptances by Barney I would say he has some kind of substance circulating his body whether that be alcohol or something more serious. But really, who knows? Unless you are a close friend of Bernard and discuss about recent substances you've taken, none of us are really going to know. We can only tell from interviews, performances and just general public appearances. Has the guy all of a sudden changed into this loud socialble being or his he on something? Who knows.

Regarding drugs: I think it is pointless speculation unless you personally know them. Their age and lifestyle now would seem to make drug use more difficult. Keep in mind that the effects of drug and alchohol use can last long after one stops abusing them. And, do old druggies gain weight? :evil4:

I'll end with a lyric from Behind Closed Doors

"Please don't take my drugs away I'm gonna give them up someday"

So, was that a self-referential lyric from Bernard or was he simply playing on his drug history?

VH1: After all of these years, what has changed about New Order and making music?Bernard Sumner: We don't take as many drugs. When we used to come to America in the 80's and the 90's we'd get fucked up all the time. This is probably the only time I have been to NY where I haven't been off my face. It's kind of good, 'cause you wake up in a good mood. Reality is a lot more interesting in the flesh then what passed for reality in those days.

From current interview online at VH1.

Any more objectors?

"AS MANY" drugs? That leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

Anyone can notice Barney's expanding beer belly; doesn't any "hard" drugs help you lose weight?

I translated this from an Barney-Interview (Musikexpress April 2005):

Q:“You don’t go out that often anymore?”

A:“When I’m going to a Club or a Pub I always drink too much and take drugs. But I don’t want to take drugs anymore and I cut down the alcohol. If you go out in Manchester you are out the whole night until 10 in the morning.”
