Seems like its going to Florida

This was discussed on Joy Division central, the webmaster of which said he knows the seller and that it is real. The regulars were unconvinced because Joy Division didn't play any songs requiring melodica at the Leigh festival. I think everyone agreed that 220 squid is silly money for a bleeding melodica!

Was it re-listed then? Thought it had already sold for £175

He had two......which makes it even more fishy!

Reading that story is like trying to swallow a spanner. Why would a musician give his instruments away like that? He wouldn't, that's why.

Ian Curtis played the melodica on the demo version of In A Lonely Place that was recorded a week before he died.

But that was not in August 1979, when these melodicas were allegedly given away!

I've been following this epic saga on both WIM and JDC. The only thing I have to add to what has already been said is that the description promises authentification signed by the stage manager that was given them.

All other speculation aside, I think the fact that the stage manager also happens to be the seller makes me a little suspicious...

Don't forget that melodicas used to be dirt cheap so having a few around isn't that unbelievable. When I was in infant school we all had them because they were cheap plastic and even a tone deaf numbnuts could get a tune out of one.

Don't know about today.
