Gillian on WFTSC

No females listed as backing vocals on the US version. Unless they put the vise on Benard's nuts I'd say it's Gillian.

The M1 is an M1/2.

dawn Z is listed as a backup singer on the album, also Beatrice Hatherley

But NOT on the title track! Guess why? :D Just my theory of course. Shacky vocals? Really must be her then! ;) When are we gonna get the answers to the questions we sent to Amazon?!

It's not Guilt in question. We know who did backup vox on it.

The title track is the one in question.

Ally, backing vox are listed for all songs that have female backers EXCEPT for the title track, WFTSC.

reasons to believe

1. Female backing vocals on track
2. Credits to new order only
3. Gillian only female member ever in new Order
4. All other tracks with female backing vocals give credit to the singer

5. Sounds a lot like her!
6. It would be a kind tribute to her glorious past with the band.
7. It would be a Factory-esque misteryous kind of tribute.

Well, a family member knows Gill & Steve really well and I know she asked if G had done anything on the new album. She said not. I will ask again, specifically about the title track.

She left the band after the recording of Get Ready. End of story really. Her and Steve's eldest daughter was seriously ill and they decided between them that it should be Gillian who called time on her career in the band, hence why Mr Morris is still involved and Mrs Morris isn't.

Now the chances are smaller, but you never know... first we should know who was the member answering, and maybe that member didn't think that small bit of backing vocals was anything really... after all some don't even notice it on first listenings... maybe they didn't even think to keep it if it was recorded at their home... and to say I like it so much... But after your post we must admit that 85% they just forgot to credit the vocalist for the track, at this point I'd think she's that vocalist appearing on Twisted Tenderness, what's her name, can't be arsed to check... Astrid Williamson or something? Doesn't really sound like Dawn Zee, maybe it's that new Beatrix one... Oh, and Chemical, many thanks for remembering the events of the last three years to the newbies, of course the most of us already knew them, but if you read the thread you see the reason why we still believe(d?) she could have made that mysterious appearance... You also may know she played New Dawn Fades with Moby and New Order in America in 2002 (after she left the band) and this very year collected the Godlike Genius NME Award with the band, she's been seen at gigs backstage, so it's hardly like she's always stuck at home, it's just she can't carry on a full commitment with the band, but singing half a minute of backing vocals wouldn't have taken that much. I also understand, from recent interviews, that the band members talk about her daughter's illness more like an issue from the past than of the present (I think they use words like "was ill"). This is just my guess really, as maybe they were just referring to the time when she left the band, but I hope that her daughter, if not fully recovered, is at least feeling better... this also could give Gillian that extra time to do anything else, though of course she'll never be a properly active member of the band again...

Listening to the Canal + gig on my headphones Waiting For The Sirens` Call does sound like Gillian on backing vocals even more than the album version of that track.

Just out of curiousity has there been any public comment from Gillian on what she thinks of the band these days and what her opinions are of the new album?

I don't think she did any interview... I guess she may like the album, there are some songs she could have enjoyed playing, and of course she has seen its beginning at her and Steve's house so she may have told her opinions to the band sometimes. So has anybody asked about the big mistery of the title track backing vocals??!

and to double confirm this. nic asked Bernard the question about this at roughly the same time I was interviewing Peter across the street, and asked the same question. Both responses were that it was not Gillian but it was Dawn. The interview will be edited for radio this weekend hopefully, and the un-edited version will be up on nool and retroforward radio sometime next week.
