His style is so incredible that I am considering learning to play bass. I have heard no one else who comes close to playing that instrument as well as he does!!
What model(s) does/has he traditionally use(d)? Anyone know?
What make/model bass does Hooky use?

Welcome Chris, it's pretty safe to say that he's used dozens of different basses over the years. The distinctive sound comes from the effects that the bass signal is passed through, which is a combination of on-board electronics in some of his basses and an ElectroHarmonix Clone Theory pedal (again, with a shedload of rack gear).
The sound you heard on Blue Monday (and indeed the vast majority of the high notes used in various songs down the years) comes from a Shergold Marathon 6-string bass. There were only 95 of these ever made - Hooky has three, and there are at least three others owned by members of this site! Through the 80s Hooky used a Yamaha RB2000, and at some stage in the late 80s commissioned a pair of Eccleshall hollow-body 335-style basses christened Hot and Hot 1. He's just taken delivery of a third similar bass. He has also used a MusicMan Stingray 5-string bass on some songs (with low B - the 6 string Shergold has conventional EADGBE). I'd hate to think how many different models he has that we don't know about though!
Thx Monkey! That is excellent information. He is definately the MAN!! Too bad I cannot make it to Chicago for the show and the post-show; should be an excellent time in an incredible city.
