Start the day with "Disorder", then complaining about what could have become out of JD if he'd still live.
Nothing on the 18th itself, maybe some light rehearsal, but the 19th will see me and the rest of the band getting onstage at the Spread Eagle in Shoreditch and playing a set of Joy Division material. We may also do some of the new New Order album tracks before they play them!

For me it will be a private thought whist Atmosphere plays.
i would spend the day as i do many days wondering what would have happened if ian had lived ect.
not for the musical/lyrical brilliance ect,but for the hilarity.
could you imagine it for a moment,a 50 yr old ian still flailing around the stage,barney whooping and gurning and doing his "barney bucks",hooky in a constant splitz stance bashing his bass,and mr morris looking on in bemusement from behind his drum kit.
in this imaginationing they would have become a parrody greater than spinal tap.
be greatfull for what you have,and thankfull for what you have had.

I'd think about it a bit, play a couple of JD songs and Ceremony, but I wouldn't spend the whole day on it. Heck, Mount Saint Helens erupted in Washington State that same day, and a number of people unfortunatley lost their lives in that tragedy, so I'll think about that as well.

Subject to it being a half-decent performance and with the consent of the rest of the band, then yes by all means. May even put it together as a special edition release, the set will be short enough to fit easily on a CD (if not one side of a C90!!!).
The Shrine will be all prepared for this coming day. I have spent since January cleaning it up. (for all of you who don't know me, I have an entire room of my house dedicated as a shrine to Ian Curtis). I just repainted it, black of course!
This year, 25 candles will be lit. They are black candles.
First, I will say a prayer to Trent Reznor, cause he is really so goth, like Ian, and really knows death stuff. I will play NIN cause that is so much more goth than any of this new order dancey stuff.
Then, at the exact time he played The Idiot, I will too. And I will put on my special copy of Herzog... and have some of my special Ian booze (the same type he had).
Then, I will sit down and look into each of my Ian pictures on the wall and say to each of the 94 images, "Ian, you are my inspiration, and I want to follow in your footsteps..."
Then, I will get out the rope. Every year I do a mock reenactment of the glorious incident. This year, it will last a full 25 seconds, one second for each holy year.
I listen to The Eternal on repeat during this.
Two years ago, I swear, I saw His ghost 19 seconds in.
I even have a backup generator in case the power goes out. That happened in 1995, and really ruined the mood when the music cut out.
We should all do something special for His deathday. And we of course should recognize His deathday, not His birthday, cause everyone should focus on His death, not His life, right?
