I'd say this is far less likely than a CD remaster.

Not many bands have old compilations completely remixed and remastered in 5.1 channels, DD or DTS. It's a huge task.

Go see what I think it is Talking Heads have done (at least in the UK), all their albums have just been remasted on dvd using 5.1. It seems that is the way to go.

I don't think this has actually happened has it?

They've released the Jonathon Demme 'Stop Making Sense' concert film on DVD in 5.1 but I don't know about any others.

There are only a few true 5.1 studio albums out there, like Orbital's 'The Altogether' and Flaming Lips 'Yoshimi' but it's not really happening a lot. With live albums it makes more sense and I can recommend Underworld's 'Everything Everything' as a killer example. None of the New Order live DVDs have been released in 5.1, regrettably.

As mentioned above, the original masters don't exist for a lot of these albums any more and it's a significant operation converting them to multi-channel. Unlikely.

A 5.1 channel TPK is quite a nice fantasy though.

Don't forget Jarre's new "Aero"...it's actually quite good on a solid 5.1-system :).

Isn't 511 in dts?

Yes it was. I forgot about that one, DTS and DD 5.1. Not a bad mix either as far as NO goes as they generally sound a bit muddled live, for mine.

But again, it's one thing recording something new in 5.1 and another going back and trying to re-create 5.1 from old masters that probably don't exist.

Listen to the the Low Life version of TPK. You can hear Barney Starting to say The ,as in The Perfect Kiss is the Kiss of Death.

Actually, it's the beginning of Barney forming the 'W' of the line 'When you are alone at night' (as I said earlier in this thread).
