Just seen/heard what is probably the most toe-curlingly corny rendition of old Human League classic "Don't You Want Me?" I have ever come across - and that means, it tops even the horrible cover version that The Farm did a few years back for sheer crapness. (Me and The Farm "go back a long way"....... ho ho .....Peter Hooton - what a tone-deaf bozo he is, at least he's done the decent thing and given up trying to be a singer and instead concentrate on being "a style commentator" [copyright BBC1]).
There's this new utterly wretched advert that's currently being aired on TV - for FIAT Cars - shows a couple pulling into a petrol station to the strains of the song's intro, then the bloke "narrates" the first verse to his bird as he gets out the car (oh, stop, my sides are hurting!!!) - she then pulls off without him - and who wouldn't, given his atrocious attempt at trying to "act" out the lyrics? - and he is left saying "Don't You Want Me Baby?....Don't You Want Me.....?....Woh-woh...woh-woh!!..." in such a spectacularly gormless fashion it actually makes Peter Hooton sound like fucking Pavarotti. Truly Cringeworthy stuff! Nearly threw up me tea when that one came on....oh, and let me warn you, it's one of those ads that has a brief "reprise" further down during the ad break - as if one airing of it wasn't bad enough, it comes back to haunt you! Ugh!! NO-O-O!!! PLEASE STOP THIS TORTURE!!!!
