Peter Hook interview WLUW/NOOL

The Peter Hook interview will be aired Monday Night (May 9, 05) on WLUW 88.7fm in Chicago between 10pm and 12am CST. You can also listen on-line via http://www.wluw.org

The interview will be available on neworderonline later this week and eventually will be transcribed by someone who is not lazy.

Dawn does backing vocals on WFTSC and someone like you for euorpean leg, age of consent, lonseome tonight, egg hooky's been playing hurt, worried he might have arthiritis in his bass playing picking finger stone roses re-uniting his mom was the first to notice the cure sounding like Peter, and thats one of the reasons he gets annoyed with the cure he recieved nool trbute cds and liked it, likes wacky stuff, suggested a best of and rest of... wants to book re:order at his 50th bday party doesnt know who taught barney how to dance, wonders what he's doing, but he's ok with it, ok with whoops, doesnt like the whistling someone stole 6 of his cds in san fran. recorded an itunes session in cali.

and to whoever was in the chatroom and said this sucks (the interview.) fuck off. you try sitting there across from one of your hero's and try to conduct an interview trying not to ask questions that were asked a million times before. im the first to admit that im not a pro at this stuff, and it could have been better, but the point was to get info. that a lot of noolers asked about or didnt know about.

Hey Kamar, I wasn't able to tune in last night so I look forward to listening when it gets posted. Some people just never have anything good to say. It's the same as people complaining about this and that to do with the concerts. I'm yet to experience a society that keeps everyone happy. On this note, a concert is going to last a specific/non specific amount of time. A band will play "x" amount of songs. Why not be happy and enjoy what you hear??? They cannot play everything just to encompass each individuals tastes. Why do we carry on as if they should? Individuality and expression of opinions is great - but lets try and be somewhat realistic???

The Roses reunion has to be a joke. There's as much chance of that as there is of Ian singing in tune live...

Thanks Kamar for the interview...Itunes has been revealed, They recorded some songs at Apple studio the day after Kimmel TV show. They also did an interview, Well we should get many things through Itunes hopefully soon. Hooky hands has been bothering him for also all the various show, I was talking to him about it and how obvious he looked bother about it. Beginning of the show in SFO he was looking so pissed and very distant.

when he was talking about it, he was staring at his hand and kinda fidgeting with it. I hope its nothing serious. I really didnt know what to say, so i suggested glucosamen chondriten :/ I hope its ok. It just shows how great he is on stage, he's having problems with his hand, and yet steals the show with his bass playing skills.

Very good job with the interview! YOu did ask very non-cliche questions and did an interview that a "true fan" of the group would do. My only criticism would be that Hooky talked way too much of his DJing experiences, but that is because I would have loved to have heard more about New Order.

Next time you interview him, you should ask him about his side-projects, "Monaco" and "Revenge"...

What did Hooky say about Barney going to the hospital after the Chicago show? What did he get poisoned with? I didn't understand...if someone could explain, that would be great.

I liked how Hooky hinted at returning for another possible tour when they promote their next album. That gives us "neworder geeks" hope for the future!

Seeing as I can't hear 95% of what Kamar was saying, even through Cool Edit, I will have to have a good play with it before I will be able to transcribe it, and that won't be tonight!

I will say this much - this is an excellent interview, one of the best I've heard in a very long time. Hooky is clearly enjoying himself, he's relaxed and happy to be there. Some good questions as well, precisely the sort of things that people on here have been asking. I've done a few interviews with bands myself, and I know how easy it is to get a bit tongue-tied and star-struck, and how easy it is to forget to ask the questions you intended to and suchlike, which is why I am so impressed with this one. Great work Kamar !

It does indeed on record, but it was a great buzz to play it! No rehearsal, we only got the sequencer track a few minutes before the show, from Gnu Odor and it didn't help that we were all using borrowed gear and nobody had practiced their parts!

just listened to it. Top class Kamar ! a great interview with a great guy "because they've annoyed me mother, i've gotta hate them forever" Good news as well for Argentina. If you'll arrange a venue and planetickets, he'll come!;)

Hooky totally contradicted himself (in a good way) when he was talking about The Cure. He starts off being very friendly about the band and saying that he is a huge "fan" of the band, but then by the end of the piece about The Cure, he goes on to say that he has a deep "hate" for the band, because of his mother. Very funny stuff!

I cannot believe that the smartbar crowd didn't dance for him. I would go crazy if I dj-ed and nobody danced and everyone just stared back at me...awkward!

Next time Hooky comes to Chicago, people...let's give him a crowd that will react to his music!!!

Thanks for posting the interview. Well done Kamar, nice one. Sounded like it could have gone on and on - good questions, was more like a chat than simply firing questions at him. I guess I don't notice the accent as much as what some people do. I'm used to it in the US, must be hard for people to not only have to listen to what you are saying but also how you say it as well. Great to hear him mention Age of Consent - fantastic!

Great interview, I'm elated to hear that they record some itunes sessions, can't wait to hear 'em. And please, please, please tell me its true the Stone Roses are reuniting, its not a joke right? those guys are by far one of my favorite bands, I like them as much as NO! time to listen to Elephant stone!

Kamar....GREAT job man. You sounded a bit nervous...understandably....but you must have had a great time doing the interview. Hooky seemed relaxed..and the questions were good.

I especially liked how he remined us fans that he's still Punk at heart and maintains he (and the band) will do what they want...and not sell out, or confine to the machine.

but, seriously, i'm really happy you enjoyed it. nic, wenorder, and i sat down for lunch and went over questions that the fans would want to hear. funny little story...Peter looked over at my notes, and saw that I spelled "Freebass" : "Freebase". I wrote it in my notes like that on purpose cause I remember it meant getting really fucked up somehow on some drug. when he saw it, he took my pen, and changed the e to an s. when he did that, i thought, "whatever you fuck, you spell email "emale". did i say it, hellllllllll nooooooooooo. as much as it would have been classic to get punched by hooky, i thought it be better to be on good terms with the guy cause he was so damn cool even though he scolded me twice :(

And as for the Stone Roses reforming: you can bet your bottom dollar it'll happen one day. Just as with New Order in '98, eventually the amounts they get offered for a reunion tour will help smoothe over any personal differences they might have had, mark my words!

Always difficult to say with Hooky - certainly he was having a bit of a laugh at our expenses through Kamar at times, knowing that people would be hanging on his every word. He has said before that AOC would not be around anymore. They had also said that The Village, Thieves Like Us and Leave Me Alone would be back in the set, now he is saying Age of Consent, EGG and Lonesome Tonight instead. Maybe they are changing their minds, maybe they are just saying things for the sake of it, who cares? We'll find out soon enough. I know they hadn't rehearsed as much as they wanted to for these US shows, and that we can expect more variety for the summer, though it won't ever be on a scale of 1985 different set every night. Bernard couldn't do that these days clearly, if he needs his jokes writing down for him as well as reminders of the songs he wrote, and the technological advancements and the soundboard requirements are such that it would no longer be possible to choose the setlist ten minutes before going on stage!

One thing that has struck me though - if Bernard changed the set at the last minute for the second encore track in New York, was he singing without an autocue on She's Lost Control? Maybe it can be done after all!!

Yep, I don't think is as unrealistic as it sounds either. Wasn't Squire the one who wouldn't do it initially, but he's had little commercial success for a few years so he could be bought now. In fact Brown holds all the aces these days - he's putting together a Greatest Hits album at the mo, no less, and a SR gig would be great promotion for that even tho he wouldnt be playing any of 'em. Even Mani might be better off than Sqiure now, what, with all those Freebass royalties tumbling in.

I remember seeing New Order at BDO in 2001(?) and hearing Barney order a Pernod and OJ on stage. I tried it later that week at a bar.

I think he was reading the teleprompter during the SLC verses. That techie on Phil's side of the stage, maybe he's respsonsible for it. I remember he was recordind the show with a video camera. I'm not sure if he had it in Oakland too.
