The Best New Order Song Of 2005.....

......is a remix of The Killers.

Was listening to Jaques Lu Cont's sublime Thin White Duke remix of "Mr Brightside" by The Killers and noticed that in the closing two minutes of the song a heavily chorused bass sound a la Hooky sneaks prominently into the mix.

I'm 99% sure that it doesn't feature in the original. Textbook Hooky G-string noodlings which I suspect Lu Cont has simply added on for his own amusement.

The net effect is the last 2 minutes sound more "classic New Order" than anything produced by New Order of late! Really looking forward to hearing what he's done with Jetsream. Although, as the saying goes, you can't polish a shite!

So he's taken the bass off the single version of JET & put it onto Mr Brightside

It's a stunningly great mix. Heard it at a club a couple of weeks back and seeked it out.

The JLC remix of Jetstream is pretty similar really, but doesn't carry the full vocal like the Mr B. mix does. Hooky's base is very prominent, and it is a better tune than the original IMO

The only place I see this "readily" available on CD is the German CD single. Have I missed something?

it's on US Itunes, or on the back of the current 'Smile like you mean it' CD single I think.

Thanks, SB2. Unfortunately, according to Amazon UK, the second track on the SLYMI CD is something called Get Trashed. I'm not really excited about paying 14 euros to Amazon Germany for shipping on a CD single.

hmmm, not too sure then. Bought it as a download myself, but sure I saw it advertised as being on the b side on SMLYI. Have a look at HMV.co.uk maybe?

I'm looking forward to the Killers remix. In general I like their stuff.

Stick to Soulseek. No spyware and a nice community of likeminded souls with a passion for good music. Worth checking out from Jaques Lu Cont is his remix of Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For" and his Thin White Duke mix of "Four To The Floor" by Starsailor. If he can make these two acts sound anyway decent then you know the lad's got talent!

I've always found his own productions to be a bit lacking and a wee bit obvious. His remixes though are on the whole superb.

I have that remix on vinyl. Love that track.
