this afternoon im about to embark on making my first ever new order compilation tape for someone other than myself. im quite excited but of course the weight of responsibility is crushing, dont want to let my boys (and gal)down now, do i. ive consumed half a tube of hot n spicy pringles and 3 caramel squares to provide the necessary sustinence for the task ahead. the task being to secure a waverer who after liking GR purchased republic only to be thrown into great confusion as to the quality the order. dont know what im going to put on the tape; im definitely not going to be unleashing the following on the unsuspecting listener(even though i like most of em); confusion we all stand face up in a lonely place shellshock subculture state of the nation weirdo mr disco

Eeear duck, try these for size.....are you allowed to put tracks from Get Ready and Republic on when they already have these? If so.....

Crystal Regret Vicious Streak Temptation Sooner Than You Think BLT TBTHOG True Faith 1963 Perfect Kiss

As It Is When It Was Sunrise Blue Monday Love Vigilantes Lonesome Tonight Thieves Like Us The Village World Primitive Notion Ceremony

And if that don't do it, it weren't meant to happen :)

I'm in the same boat Velcro, have been putting it off as most of my NO is on vinyl and I intend to burn it onto a C.D. Why no Mr. Disco? the potential convert my tape is intended for is a bit of a pot-head with a liking for Paul Weller so I think I've got my work cut out. After hearing me banging on about NO he heard Blue Monday and was impressed but doesn't like DANCE/TECHNO I'm thinking along the lines of. Temptation Age Of Consent YSF The Village 586 Leave Me Alone B.L.T. Theives... True Faith(all of which I already have on C.D.) Mr Disco Run Crystal(all on my hard drive already)

thanks loads for the input. :) i barely know the fella im making the tape for, from what i can tell hes into dadrock and meat and potatoes indie, and like hanks mate hes not keen on dance music. when we were talking about "blue monday" he commented on how cheesy he thinks it is; thats partly why im leaving stuff like "face off", "subculture" and "mr disco" off, the sound of a full on nascent digital technology assualt isnt going to sound good to the ears of such a young pup. besides i really HATE "mr disco". and while i think "in a lonely place" is a good song, i dont particularly like the studio version, so its being left off. ive had a wee think about how im going to tailor the compilation to his tastes and gone for the following: 1981-1989;

ceremony procesion dreams never end egg ysf age of consent leave me alone lonesome tonight the perfect kiss love vigilantes sooner than u think paradise blt temptation 87 true faith tbthog loveless vanishing point *might scrap tbthog for dream attack

i reckon thats fair enough no lp is completely neglected and ive left enough good stuff for him to discover for himself. i reckon hell like that and if he doesnt i know he`ll pretend that he does.

How about including the following cover versions instead, makes a refreshing change...

(suddenly snaps into mad Geordie Ad Voiceover™ mode:)

"WOOD-PEKKAH SIDE-AHH! WHAT A RE-FRESSHIN' CHAYRNGE!!!"

Fine Time - Yazz Confusion - ELO Atmosphere - Russ Abbott Young Offender - Alexei Sayle We All Stand (Together) - Paul McCartney , Rupert Bear & The Frog Chorus All The Way - England World Cup Squad / Stock Aitken Waterman Blue Monday - Fats Domino Round & Round - Spandau Ballet Temptation - Wet Wet Wet Leave Me Alone - Michael Jackson Liar - Graham Bonnet Sunrise - Brighouse And Rastrick Brass Band

See? Told you they would be good 'uns.... ;)

This is my fav compilation, it shows the full range of their talents I think.

Ceremony (Original) Procession EGG Temptation 87 Sunrise The Perfect Kiss (Original FAC 123 version) Bizarre Love Triangle (Album version) True Faith 1963 Round & Round (Extended) Ruined In A Day (Reunited Mix) World (Perfecto Mix) Regret (Fire Island Mix)

Hope it helps. :kiss:

With your parameters Velocity, I'd probably look at:

Ceremony EGG Procession Mesh Temptation '87 AOC YSF Leave Me Alone Love Vigilantes Sunrise Paradise BLT Angel Dust As It Was.. True Faith Run Round and Round Run Dream Attack

I would put in Weirdo (why is this not allowed? Great song) as well, and bearing in mind they like their Dad rock I'd puta few more Brotherhood Tracks in than I would normally.

I've just listened to your comp. and it's fucking brilliant! I'd change some of the arrangement though, got to keep you from getting a big head. So, saying that, I think I have a big head for thinking my thoughts mean anything to you. :D Anyways, the choice of songs are top notch! :clap:

the final tracklisting was;

ceremony 7" procession dreams never end egg ysf age of consent leave me alone lonesome tonight the perfect kiss 12"

love vigilantes sooner than u think blt album version broken promise true faith temptation 87 tbthog vanishing point all the way loveless

its pretty damn spiffing; i dont want to give it away now, especially as ive made a fucking lovely fold-out sleeve, with pics of the record sleeves and some commentary by myself..well actually ridiculous amounts of commentary, in a tiny font. not sure what hell make of it, but im sure the obvious labour that`s gone into it will encourage him to give it a good, and repeated listen.
