Which Version of Single Releases Do You Prefer? Eg the LP version of Crystal is IMO the best by far, but the 12" version of Round and Round is pure class. Are good remixes a one-off, are they best done by NO themselves or do NO tracks generally benefit from the remix treatment by other people?

Depends of the song...
Example, IMHO, Crystal single version is better than the album version... that intro is useless, get right to the gee-tars!
As for remixes.. there are quite bad ones though.. especially in 1995-1996... 
Not all their singles are on albums. This a problem for the way you framed your poll.
Anyway most times I enjoy the original more.
Back in '89 I would have said remixes, but now its mostly lp. but Crystal single is better, so are Here to stay, World (Perfecto edit), Spooky (mini mix), 1963 (95), Blt (extended), World in motion (95 mix), Paradice (peel) & Close range (Peel).
I love the krafty single but I love the lp better.

Really? I think the intro is one of the best parts of the song - the atmosphere it builds is amazing and paves the way for the entrance of the drums, which I think is one of the LP mix's best moments.
Remixes were class between 1988 through to 1994. After that they've been largely dire, although I do prefer a couple of the remixes of Jetstream to the original, but that isn't saying much.
Krafty, I love the album re-edit... I think it's much better than the original version.
I am a fan of long-winding mixes though, so short album versions don't normally do it for me... e.g. The 12" versions of Perfect Kiss, Round & Round, Run etc.
Honestly, it varies greatly. For example, Subculture has no good remix, although the Low-life version is class. It's the same with Here to Stay - only the original is any good. But, BLT sounds better with the extended dance remix, except when they attempt to do it live. Then again, some songs and their remixes are good: World (Republic version and Perfecto remix), Shellshock (any version), True Faith, and Blue Monday (83 and 88).
