What do you think helped Joy division to have an outstanding cult follow-up?

I was debating whether or not this be a poll, but I can only think of few possible reasons why JD is more popular today. What do you think?

My theory, that the success of NO had contribute to their cult follow-up. I.E. If I did not get into NO, I would not know of JD at all. And thats probably why. The way Ian died be my second choice, its what I call the Kurt Cobain effect. Nirvana is more popular today for the same reason.

I am surprised at all the JD tribue concert featuring shows of covers.

Cult: for the people who dont know what I mean, means more popular today then before, like cult movies.

Sadly they did become more popular after Ian's death, so they weren't at the height of their popularity. But, the novelty of a suicide only lasts so long. In the end its the music that speaks. Need also I remind you of the pothumous releases. Pure quality.
