I'd say 1963 runs pretty close to be a prime contender - even if some people (who they???) think it's more corny than evocative. 
Oh, Thieves Like Us, without a doubt, sweeping synths throughout, and then "It's called love, and it belongs to us" turns into "It's called love, and it belongs to everyone but us"
The lyrics to Turn are pretty spot on, too, leaving when it's the only thing left to do..

I really hope its not the last single off the album though. If pisstream wrecks WFTSC chances of getting released,even more thoughts will deduce it was a stinker of New order to release a single quite so shit.....1963 is very gutting aswell
Ceremony Knocks Fuck out of me. Lyrically it hurts,but its just such a stonker musically .such a powerful number.

I have heard it is about Marilyn Monroe and JFK,and also It was said to be about someone hooked on smack.I have no idea if any of these are true...but a very evocative consuming song it is

and loveless is wide open to interpretation ......But the guy singing is heartbroken either way.If it were just about his kid being an ungrateful so and so, he needs to take command of the situationI think some bird is having his life in this song.At the end of Loveless you can hear the defeat in Barney's voice.Very well sung

well, I'm glad for Bernard he's become much happier and more positive over the years instead of not being a "happy chappy" as he once said it himself or 'a short fuse burning all the time' but I agree with you that in unhappier times the songs had more emotional depth.
