Nearly as good as New Order

Anyone heard of the'The Arcade Fire' Brilliant album, best ive heard this year from a new band. Sound like New Order in places especially 'Neighborhood #3 (power out). I read somewhere that one of their major influences was New Order.

i never really thought of that track as being "Neworderish", but the album Funeral is excellent, probably the all around most praised "alternative/indie" record in america in 2004. i don't doubt that they are New Order fans (they have good taste). its funny what bands gets tagged with the JD or NO tag in the media, all seems pretty superficial, while other bands have more of the bands' songwriting style underneath and emotional "atmosphere"

other records that are cool without being that cheesy electroclash bullshit..

Junior Boys- Last Exit ... very cool laid back sort of New orderish or PSB without living in the past. "Birthday" is an excellent song

LCD Soundsystem ... inspired by everything from The Fall to A Certain Ratio to Daft Punk to Beatles, and who knows what the hell else in between

They are good. But they are very close to entering that group of bands known as "vastly overrated and overhyped"

The band that leads that group at the moment is Bloc Party. Arcade fire as good, but not as good as some people are making out.

Saw one of their shows here in Toronto. They are great live! They were at Coachella too I think. What I like about them being like New Order is that they have really onlt replicated their creativity and not their 'sound'.

Here here! Just don't "get" Bloc Party. Like I didn't "get" Frank Ferdinand last year. Seem to be in a minority of one though.

Yeah, they were. Unfortunately, their time slot overlapped with Gang Of Four, who appeared on the main stage just before New Order did, so I'm not sure how many people caught both acts. Heard only good things about their performance at Coachella, the only thing I've heard by them is their rather lame cover of that Talking Heads song, it just doesn't add anything to it, might as well listen to the original.

have had the album since last year, saw them a few weeks back in bristol & picked up the ep though had it on mp3 for a while...

their next single (neighbourhood #3 (power out) reminds me of temptation, but other than that see no new order resemblance what so ever.

I heard some songs some time ago and I thought it was really, really bad...

See, with Franz, i didnt like them at first. But i saw em live and was converted. They are overrated, but still very good. Bloc Party though? Never liked them. Saw them live, and bored me all the way to the bar and the merchandise stall...

Yes, I do like them, and they are French Canadian, so they have to be great.

oh good lord. arcade fire make some of the most joyous, well produced music out there right now. it's as original as can be and extremely well written. they are a fantastic live band. their singers are great. if new order put out an album as good as funeral these days, i would shit myself. so there. pull your damn pants down at little, your crotch will stop hurting so.
