Today marks the 23rd anniversary of my first new order gig. the dates 25th & 26th May are embedded in my mind like birthdays, [the latter for a genius night in 1989] - but I've never stored the exact date of any other gig outings.
A brief recollection of the gig has been covered elsewhere so i won't labour my experiences. Suffice to say I can remember very little of the merit of the performance, just a recall of the heady anticipation of the evening - having been stymied in my attempts to see them previously. I remember 52nd street sounding like chic and having a guitar that lit up when it was played. I remember the shonky encore but just being impressed that they weren't being new order and not doing one. I remember going to the pub before and being abused by members of 4be2. I remember 'procession' being a stand out track, whether it was because little of the rest of the set had been released/broadcast or because it contained an almighty trademark cock-up I don't recall. I remember being surprised that a band could play to so many people so badly [so the jetstream thing doesn't really surprise me] - and yet be so exciting an experience. If anyone has this gig I'd appreciate blagging a copy because I haven't heard it since and everyone should have some reminder of their 'first time', cheers.
I know it's probably been offered up before but to make a break from the 200 threads disseminating jetstream and its accompanying performances. does anybody else have any experiences to share of when they popped their new order cherry?
