20 & then down to 49? i'd be surprised if the label want to release ANYTHING after that dismal showing. Anyone know - did the album chart again on the strength of JET?

If Jetstream took 7000 copies to chart at number 20, how many copies has sold to, erm, "reach" number 49? 300 copies?! Is there any place where we can see the actual sales of the singles and albums? It'd be really interesting... I'm really afraid about the WFTSC single. I'll be relieved when I see the release date... It's a totally different single from the first two, they must give it a try, this is a classic... but it NEEDS a B side. People just can't be fooled to buy a single with just remixes and they don't care about the other toys like video, u-myx, u-fart and stuff... they want songs for money, and one album song is no value for the not hardcore fans...

So lesson for chart success New Order just forget about actually releasing music. Just make an album full of annoying polyphonic ringtones.

Steve I'm sure you can still find those frogs from TPK. Don't forget to include those.

As far as I know - Jetstream wasn't played on Radio 1 (apart from a little bit on the evening dance shows). To get to no 1, a song needs to be played continuously on Radio 1 and the big commercial stations. The Frog single was an exception because it was advertised on the TV almost continuously.

Oasis, Coldplay and Stephani receive continusous airplay, so they chart well. New Order do not, so they don't. Anyone who thinks that it's got anything to do with the quality of the music is kidding themselves.

How do you know about the 7000 copies??? According to http://www.neworder.de the CD is "limited" to 3000 copies, though they are not referring to which cat.nr. this applies, and if it is a special German edition. Anyway, I doubt they can sell 3000 in Germany...

releasing jetstream was a mistake!!!

it's a poor attempt at a pop hit.

they should release the title track and in a hurry.

they can release guilt as well.

krafty is not enough to generate the buzz the album so deservedly needs.

ah, just forget about the charts.

new order is never gonna chart high again. and that is a GOOD thing. more Turn, less Jetstream...

I would rather they just ignore the charts and put out albums to us fans. Stop worrying about what will chart, I wish New Order would forget about it the next time around, and give us more substance and less chartiness.

Does anyone know how many LPs were sold of WftSC in the US and UK????

I would just like for New Order to tour and release lps, more often and with less marketing crap... they are NOT going to be on the cover of Rolling Stone or Spin or whatever again, and they don't need to be... we don't need New Order to chart singles or be on MTV to make us happy anymore... you need the kid market for that, and the kids want ringtones and boy bands and hiphop crap....

As long as the Order can make enough sales to us core fans, they will remain on a good label and be allowed to continue life as well paid musicians.... what more should we want???

Their days of high living are over. The future is hopefully all about the best music and intimate tours....

*There was a very interesting link from Robertao to a forum where they just discuss charts with all the statistics (they're a bit scary to go that deep), but mostly they are about absolute positions etc. It was just out of curiosity that some member asked to know some of the physical sales of the singles, and the thread originator replied citing some positions (maybe we should ask him where he found his info). Oasis (at number 1) sold about 70,000 copies, and Stevie Wonder (at number 19) just sold a few more than 7,000... like 7,200 or something... hence it's just optimistic to suppose that Jetstream, at number 20, reached at least the 7,000 copies, but certainly not more than Wonder's single. 7,000 copies are already misery, if New Order sold 3,000 copies they would have charted much below number 20... BTW 3,000 copies were the limited edition of Soundtrack, no way Jetstream had such a limited release in the UK... let's say they were expecting a Top 10 hit, they must have pressed 50,000 copies at least... how sad not even 10,000 were sold... that's why I'm worried about the third single coming out at all...
