The thousand plus club - and an observation

Well, here it is - my 1000th post. Whoopee.

I thanked everyone on my 999th a few weeks ago, so this probably an anti-climax, but I should again thank the webmasters for this excellent site (now with added NO management endorsement!...sort of..)

Anyway - an observation. Many have noted here that the current batch of neophytes that cite a NO influence don't sound much like NO at all, but I recently came across the first album by Phil's band Marion, and I noticed that it sounds pretty close to the Killers, but a bit better.

Does anyone else have this album and noticed this similarity? Tracks like 'Sleep' and 'Time' are good quality songs, but the singer sounds a bit of a poseur (another Killers similarity, btw)

I remember when Marion were on the scene I saw them at a few UK festivals (1996) - crowd reaction was lukewarm, though they were pretty good. Typically a few music mags had gone overboard and described them as the new Joy Division and they never managed to live up to the hype. Agree that "Time" and "Sleep" were probably their best 2 songs - the focus was always on lead singer Jaime Harding and his looks and lifestyle. After they broke up there was one Internet story about him being caught in a drug bust, but that was about it. He had an awesome live voice and I always thought he'd be the one to kick on with something else, but it ended up being Phil - he trademarked that windmill guitar action in Marion already.
