That was the question asked by Jools, to which Hooky replied " Keep an eye on your lead singer" ACE ![]()
What advice would you give to new bands?

I think that's the best thing that Hooky's ever said. What an incredibly perfect, succinct thing to say. Very funny but also very sad. That will probably be my quote of the year. They make a great treble act when interviewed. It's the Stephen factor that does it! Oh and the music's not bad either.
Ladyland were brilliant. Was that the best haircut (or lack of cut!) that you've ever seen on a drummer. They should put him at the front not at the back.
Who exactly is "Son of Dave" ? I had the feeling that any bloke in my local pub could do better. And what is it about Rufus Wainwright at the moment. Is he the next best new thing in medialand London W1 ? I can't make up my mind whether he's quite good (if I'm feeling kind) or a bit rubbish, really regardless of his musical family.
In answer to the original question: "Write YER OWN BLOODY SONGS FER A CHANGE, stop pilfering other peoples, you lazy shitehawks."
Oh...and Epileptic Laddered Tights were fucking godawful. They should have their instruments confiscated and get locked in a cage, and then shipped to the Aboriginal outback and left there to wither in the searing heat. I'd like to see the drummers' hair after that then! ![]()
yes the interview was amusing, especially the keep an eye on yer singer gag.
as for ladyland,ho hum, arent they roxy music circa 74-75 eno inspired
seen it,heard it,got the t-shirt ect.![]()
Haciendathat, I seem to remember the Boston Drummer had mad hair, can anyone post a picture?
"You might have conveniently forgotten your past as a blond dreadlocked reggae singer, but that doesn't mean people did, too".
Incidentally, Bravery's Cryst... I mean, Fearless debuted outside top 40. Goodbye, career?
OK, so nothing to do with New Order whatsoever...but check out Steve Albini's advice to new bands. Classic.
I'd tell them "Stop worrying about what you look like on stage and worry about making good sounding music...Pansy asses!" ![]()
After reading the Steve Albini column I suddenly realised my biggest ambition in life is to become a hairdresser :s
My answer to the original question would be: "Don't go to the NME if you want to get some decent press coverage; they'll be your best mates at first and then six months later they'll shoot you down just for the fun of it".
(Can you tell I hate that mag with a passion?)
I have one word of advice for new bands: Gothabilly ![]()
Think about it: it's combining the essential moping of Goth music with the hard-charging sound of Rockabilly. Nobody's thought to do it yet, that'll be your way to break into the system! :D
Actually, that's the worst idea I've ever had (my cousin and I came up with it one night during a lull in his radio show on the college station, so it's a fifty-fifty thing really, in terms of responsibility) ![]()

Actually, there are several "gothabilly" bands. I just think of their names right now because I don't listen to them.

Ever hear of The Cramps. Gothabilly would be fair to say.
