New Order - Back to Mine?

Looks as if the Order have selected (will select) some tracks for our listening pleasure to be part of the Back to Mine series. What tracks would make it? Will it be a band effort? Perhaps Gillian should do the compiling and let the boys worry about how to get extremely pissed in Australia before running through America at top speed. I hope Barney doesn't include any Neil Young and Stephen should keep his Graham Parsons to himself. For a band as responsible for the flood of electronic artists as NewOrder, there should be some gems resurfacing for this compilation right? Maybe DMC will officially release the Substance Abuse mixes along with the rest of the DMC mixes?

I'm guessing the track listing will run a little like this: Blue Monday, BLT, True Faith, ie the usual suspects. That's why, if I ever get a band together and we're asked to contribute a song to a NO tribute, we're gonna pick Procession, Ceremony, or EGG.

"back to mine" is a series of compilations where (generally) dance music types are given a free rein to compile and mix their favourite chillout/post-club/after hours tunes; with the emphasise being on electronic material, although theyre not strict about this. they tend to be pretty high quality, particularly the evrything but the girl one, which was rather stunning i thought. cant imagine a new order one being that exciting; don`t suppose barney listens to much experimental electronica..its all fatboy slim and coldplay with him these days; though a bit of trans era neil young would be nice. hopefully steve and gillian will take charge of this one.

Okay, is this covering NO songs, or NO picking out artists? I'm confused.....(as usual)

The band would pick choons by other artists who had influenced them, or simply liked. Most of the series has been pretty good, and I for one would look frward to seeing their choices.

Dunno if anyone remembers or recorded the peel session interview from '98, but I liked the tunes they choose to accompany their own tunes on that.

Anyone remember that interview Hooky and Barney did on "The Last Radio Programme" on Picadilly Radio back in 1986 ? They took it in turns to select the tracks played, and Barney came up with some amazing Italian house stuff, and Hooky set the famous "A Certain Ratio competition".

It's sort of a precurssor to the Back Mine wotsit in that the tunes NO picked are in the downtempo/chilled out ambient groove type thing. Edit out the New Order tracks, the band's conversation with Peely and, hey presto, - a '98 version of the Back To Mine compo.

The Faithless back to mine compilation is also good, although I've gone off the band a bit recently seeing as they bottled out of playing a cosy venue in Blackpool (two miles down the road for me) and went for the enormo-shed that is ManchesterEveningGmexNewsynex arena instead.

Do they record any of these sessions, is there any playlists listed anywhere where they show what each special had picked? Would be very interesting. In Oz we have Rage Guest programmers who just pick out music videos they enjoy and have influenced them!

I may well do that, cheers Steve. If you can chuck me yolur address through my email - it may be a while bfore I get round to it mind! Likwise with Faithless, I was meant to see em just before Christmas and then the rappe bloke went and bust his pelvis. Selfish bastard!

I'll get back to you by email re the MD. I couldn't get tickets for the December Faithless gig at the Manchester Apollo (but got Blackpool in March instead) I think the Manchester gig went ahead before Maxi Jazzy Jeff, or whatever he's called, bust his pelvis (I bet that nipped a bit!!) Anyway, I was so fed up about not getting to see them on my doorstep that I said 'stuff it' (or words to that effect) for a swap for MEN Arena tickets!!

Maybe NO can do a 'Everything But The Girl-back to mine ' where they remixed their own songs in chilled-out fashion... So that'll be an interesting list of which NO songs can be convincingly mixed or slowed down in the chilled-out style. I can only think of Fire Island Regret kinda-style....
