Think of all the places NO have disgraced themselves (well, to casual listeners, us true faithful love them to suck as you know)... NYC LONDON PARIS SYDNEY BERLIN

every glamourous city on earth has played host to the "fooked four", and been witness to another slow motion car crash of a gig.

Why then, when trolling round dimeadozen, do I find a gig in SLOUGH (fulcrum centre 85....used to have the poster for it...can't remember if it was the mad green one or the one that looked like LL) where they rock from one end of the gig to the other, and they sound good and it's a good recording. Two important points come to mind.....why slough....I mean,.....if the universe needs an enema, Slough is surely on the shortlist of targets. And......why have I never hear this gig before, I was starting to think I'd heard all the good recordings, and since I've already heard 4 or 5 good gigs, I didn;t expect that statistically there could be any more out there :)

GOBSMACKED.

must see if other awesome gigs that I've missed exist.

The Fulcrum Centre was shutting down that week (it's a cinema now, I think?) and as such hosted a series of 'big name' gigs including, I think, Siouxsie and the Banshees.

One of my mates actually gave me his poster for this gig as a wedding present a couple of years back - a poster he'd kept for nigh on 20 years previously. You're right, it's the Low-Life poster, snap of Steven. My mate's a massive gig-goer and still maintains it's the single best performance by any band he's seen anywhere and said the night was amazing cos basically everyone who was anyone from his home town (Maidenhead) was there for the Order. Said there was a huge shagpile carpet in the venue and it got drenched and kept rolling up at the sides, and also tells a story of (what looked like) somebody's GRANNY stood down the front before the band came on with everyone wondering what the fawk she was doing there - she was helped over the barriers by security about 1.5secs into the opening song (no surprise really given the nature of New Order gigs in them days).

Didn't go, went to the Central Poly night before instead, but I think Timbo was there.

:clap: :lol: Of 500+ gigs it's rumoured they played 9 good gigs. Of course this is tongue in cheek mate, there are a few mixing desk gigs floating about, and some really good audience tapes as well. Outstanding gigs.....Paris Nov 82, Brixton Ace 83, Kilkenny 83, Paradise Garage 83, Albert Hall 84, Glasgow Barra's 85, Tokyo 2&3/5 85, Warrington 86, Finsbury 87, Irvine Meadows 89, Reading 89 & Liverpool 2001.

There are of course a good few more, but most of the above are available with mixing desk sound / exellent audience recordings.

Other cracking gigs that I havnae got in a decent sound quality, Athens 82, Cardiff 83, Glasgow Tiffany's 83, Roskilde 84, Powerhouse Aus 85, Birmgham TB Nov 86, Sheffield Roxy 87, Wembley 87, SECC 89.

Depends how we're gonna define a 'good' gig though?! Look at that Tokyo DVD. No fcuking atmosphere whatsoever. Doesn't matter if the band are on form, if the audience are all road-testing rohypnol it's gonna be a major letdown. Same as Paradise Garage, band might've been cooking on gas but didn't the audience supposedly not move, thus Hooky started berating 'em for being so stationary?!

Hey, those kids on PFD are getting down, letting loose and freaking out by Japanese standards of that (pre-pokegibberish) era.

I seem to have about half of the mighty gig/mighty boot combo's. My Kilkenny stinks quite badly, both my original ancient (88ish) boot, and my mp3 copy. What a gig tho. Did I detect a lack of Caesars's palace bradford there? quite a gig. Between me and my mate ian, we bought bradford and barrowlands easily 15 times....tape decks ate them, people swiped them...all manner of things conspired to prevent us owning a copy.

I'm currently grabbing a gig from Ohio that's billed as awesome quality of an awesome gig, so damned hard to keep a raio on that flippin site with NO gigs.

All this makes me think it's about time I ripped my live CD's....don;t have enough gigs on computer.....and been getting far too used to the sanitized version of finsbury 2002.

Well, personally, I define a good gig as the band playing well with plenty of banter. If I'm at a gig, I would define it as sinking several pints and clinging on for dear life down the front singing along with all the songs

As I've said before, Finsbury Park 6-6-87 has all of this, and from the stories you and John tell me of the gig I'm kinda glad I was only 12, I would have been brown breed in a crowd like that.

When I was 13/14 collecting all the gigs, I was always on the lookout for the PERFECT versions of AOC, Sunrise, AIIWIW. The best versions of the latter two can be found on the first set at the Hac in December 85. And the AOC at Brixton in 87 is pretty hard to beat.

I know what you mean about Slough!. As I weren't offered a lift by Iain Thompson, I passed on this gig but went to CLP the night before (or after?). That was probably their finest performance (some twat threw what looked like a shoe at Hooky 'you cnuts make me fookin' sick' closely matched by Brixton Ace 83, Hacienda 83, Royal Festival Hall 84 where I swear Ian Curtis was in the audience!.

I do believe it was you who sent me some of the gigs I mentioned above on CD, so ma cap is firmly dothed in yer direction. And if you want to copy Steve some CD's that'll save me sending my originals, so cheers again;)

Gotta say I'm gutted my first gig was 89, espescially when I meet up with all of you old cunts. Different sets, plenty of fights, loadsa gigs, and more importantly, shitey wee venues.

The closest I got to a small venue was Liverpool in 2001, which was a fuckin great concert, the only pain in the arse being that me, John and Lorraine were up in the balcony. The bouncers stopped us from going downstairs :nonono: Thankfully John goes to all the gigs I do, so he barges his way straight to the front and I follow his lead. The best I've seen em musically was Reading 98 and the banter was shit hot as well. I think it was after Confusion "Thanks to every single one of ya......except for him over there in the dark glasses" And not one "whoop" throughout Atmosphere :lol:

I am seriously contemplating setting up a tracker purely for New Order gigs, but I really don't have the mildest idea how much bandwidth it would use. I mean there are a few gigs floating around online, but they are mainly FLAC, and while i can totally appreciate why it is used, it's still a pain in the balls, and besides I am sure that better compression rates can be achieve with things like wavezip, then again, at least flac is open.

I wonder if the new distributed tracker thing in azureus could help....if I launch the torrent using azureus internal tracker, and with distributed tracking available, then as long as someone is online with it ,it should always be traceable. (been watching too much dr who lately, getting far too into improbably schemes, and am deeply pissed off that I could no find a way to work the phrase "reverse the polarity of the neutron flow" into this plan)

I hate all of yas for bein so nice. I never have anything to trade back. :) I did all my NO collectin between about 86 and 94, then flogged it all when I was at college.....mainly to go out getting obscenely drunk and hammered, so i'm sure NO would approve. once spent 110quid in about 90seconds at a record fair on about 4 things. Always used to feel so ripped off when I bought a nice expensive vinyl boot, only to find out it contained an appalling recording. Least the CLP boot I paid 30 bills for was non-sucky.

Somehow I never seem to get it together to see them, last time they did Ireland ( the chillis support) I found out the day AFTER! Shame it would have been nice for them to have ONE fan in the place, and I woulda kicked the rest of those unbelievers arses, running on hookytastic bass power.

Like I've said, now that gills aint around it doesn't annoy me as much when I miss em.

EDIT: I'm in NOOOOOO hurry I assure you, mind you, I do tend to forget this site exists for weeks on end then just take up a permenant window with it again like i never left.(ahh opera and firefox means never having to bookmark anything...just leave 300 pages open at once :) )

Slough has reawakenned my quest for a good recording of some stomping early NO electronics, SotN and the village are awesome. Now I need to find hurt, ultraviolence and ecstacy (come to think of it, I've never heard that live at all) in the same speaker pounding quality.

Y'know what i love bout NO audience tapes from the 80's.....how many do we all have where all you can hear is Hooky's bass and steve's snare (the one that sounds like a floortom with a snare bed)....it's great growl growl growl whmpf wmpmf whmpmf :)

Strangely enough I haven't yet seen a bad New Order gig, no heard a bad one in recording.
