has to be stephen.
gillian isn't in the group any more, and hooky and barney have a habit of making themselves look like knobs (still love 'em though!).
I thought everyone knew by now that Stephen is New Order, and the rest of the band is a combination of animatronic figures he built himself and drunks picked up through help wanted ads.

I've been playing bass for just over 20 years. I've been listening to New Order Just a smidge under 20 years. I am therefor compelled to vote for mr hook. Howver, they are each and every one of them Gods.
Barney, when he gets bogged into winding up the casual crowd at US gigs and European festivals. And when he says more in two lines than most entire albums convey. Steve, cos he's the only drummer in the universe with sync24, MIDI, USB and Firewire inputs to his central nervous system, and internal quartz timing. Gillian for her front panel mixing on the voyetra's, and the poetry of Whomping the GO button like she's starting WWIII or launching a ship. And hooky for giving bassplayers hope that they can BE something without turning into an eggbeater fingered jazzer. For infuriating Bernard for 30+ years, and for going DRNRRRRNNRNRN at the end of every song the've performed since they bought the bleedin instruments.
And Rob should be there for being the funniest manager outside of a python sketch, and the best. And A. H. Cunt should be there for letting them get away with it long enough to be in a position to still manage to be difficult to a major label and live to tell the tale.

More complex than that my good man. barney originally created Stev ( remember he was the electronics wizz), Steve then replaced Barney with the above, and we enter your version of events.
there is also the very real possibilty that they are all merely physical manifestations of Rob's football hooligan psychosis.
Last night I lay awake wondering... are New Order perhaps wonderful figments of our collective imaginations? :\ohwell:

That's my vote for best post on NOOL. Ever.
Hooky is ace though.

Both of those reasons explain Barney's haircut throughout the 80's.

I think therefore New Order are. Actually the whole world is a figment of my imagination.
interesting that despite all the slagging off of our beloved bernard on this site recently, he's now edged in front of hookie!

I admit to my own weakness....I voted for Barney.
I'm underestimating the power of the woman.
God save the Queen....Gillian!
Steve: the power behind the throne. Much underated but highly influential. A master both of the programmed and peformed beat.
Add to that that he was expelled from several schools for sniffing glue, Tippex thinners etc, is married to a vision of gorgeous womanhood and had a prodigious appetite for mind-bending drugs. The Red Star episode cracks me up!
Could Barney play the bass the manner that Hooky does ? Of course he couldn't. So I vote for Peter.
