Well, what band do you guys enjoy more, New Order or The Pixies? I've been into them for about 3 months now and although I absolutely HATED their songs from the start, they are slowly growing on me. Gorilla Gone To The Heavans, Here's Cums my Ho, Where is My Brain, Dig for Firecrackers are brilliant tracks!!! I could listen to them all day. But the rest of the majority of their work is definitely an aquired taste(as is Frank Blue's voice).

That being said, they, to me, are definitely inferior to New Order. I mean, generally as a rule, 5 years ago I wouldn't have even considered putting these two together for the simple reason that The Pixies are an American band and I used to seriously hate American bands with a PASSION(yes, I'm American so don't even go there :) ). But I'm trying to open my mind and slowly learn to accept bands from the U.S.(Smashing Pumpinks being another recent case).

Anyway do any you actually think The Pixies are a superior band to New Order? If so, I'd be VERY interested in hearing why. *grabs popcorn* :music:

I`ve been late getting into the Pixies. Saw their gig at the Tin The Park Fest last year, and was bowled over! Debaser, Monkey gone to Heaven, I Bleed, Gigantic etc great tracks:thumb: The two bands are totally different to me.

Asking this on NewOrderOnline, what do you expect?

I've seen the Pixies three times, starting off with the double header with Throwing Muses in Newcastle (UK) in 88.

errrrr...never really saw what all the fuss was about. Like, an ok band, a pretty straight forward rock show, but nothing special, so, tell you what, I think I'll vote for new order.:D

The Pixies are my second favourite band. When I saw them for the first time in my life a dream came true after 15 years of being such a fan. I think they have the same inventiveness for noise rock than New Order have for synth/guitar pop, that's why I like them. Both bands have created peerless instrumentations and tunes. The only other band with such a genius was Prefab Sprout for sophisticated pop, and The Smiths for guitar indie, maybe... But my favourites after New Order, it's the Pixies. Still, they're my favourites AFTER New Order, so I can't even imagine voting, just like anyone on this forum, I think...

i saw that tour - their first time in the country. april wasn't it? i was in birmingham burberries.

they were far better on the doolittle tour, have seen them 6 times now, three before they split up & three after.

but this question is like saying which is best a ferrari or a rolls royce. totally different groups (& i'm not even going to mention about pixies varying their set list every night or the fact there is no "the" in their name)

Yep, this is total bollocks - you may as well ask: "New Order or Makosi off 'Big Brother'"....

Errr, count me as one of those who didn't get all that enthused about the Pixies the first time, never mind this go around. They were just another band I always heard on the radio back then, I liked a number of their tunes, but nothing extraordinary for me. I'll give 'em credit for doing a better job on Winterlong than ol' Neil did.

Loved the pixies for about ten years, but they are a very different animal to NO.

NO kick ass, Pixies fondle it (my opinion rather than decibel assessment).

If there is a pixies website, I wonder if you would get a different poll result.

I got into The Pixies by accident. I bought Le Mystere de Voix Bulgaires but when I got it home it was mispressed and actually played Surfer Rosa.

Love them.

when i first heard the pixies back in '91-'92 i didn't care for them--i didn't get into them until the mid/late '90s. i never saw them in concert, as when i lived in boston i wasn't a fan. now i like them quite a bit, but they'll never be anything like NO for me.

i had an ex-boyfriend who was a huge NO fan, but i think the pixies were the only band he liked more than NO, if i remember correctly.

I fuckin' loved the Pixies man, when they were originally around of course. Their reformation was a tad pointless. Who wants to see Black Francis screaming like a pig now that he is even fatter than one (and Bernard fer that matter)...and the rest of the blokes resembling dodgy circus freakshow casualties?

Kim Deal still looks fantastic though!

This has been mentioned here before, but there's no 'The' in Pixies, although of course a lowercase 'the' would be deemed acceptable grammatical English, cos it sounds daft (and a bit gay) saying just "I really like Pixies". But it is their actual name - just like Doves (again, no 'The').

I saw New Order this year in the same stage that Pixies 1 year ago. You are talking my favourite bands. Of course I prefer New Order. New Order have some problems live, Barney some times is out of tune and forgets the lyrics and some times has some kind of bad mood but they are huge in communicating with the public, hooky is a very nice guy and even Barney at the end of the show was great. Pixies are more “in tune” but they don’t talk with each other and they don’t talk to the public. Today they are like an “all star” band very professional but and the public guys?

I voted for New Order but Pixies are my number 2.

*New Order have behaved like the Pixies for years, and they were dead cool, just check the NY gig in the 316 DVD. The Pixies have remained a band with an extremely serious post punk attitude, but I like that as much as I like Barney's whoops and whistles now. Both band just do what they want and they're great in their own way. Seeing the Pixies so austere on stage just increased the power of their storm of sound. They didn't pretend to look hard, they WERE fookin hard, though they were smiling and waved hello to the audience (you could see they were very happy). But it was just them standing still, no jokes, no talk, nothing, no mercy, 1 hour = 20 songs (one masterpiece after another), just this huge storm of noise and great tunes in your face and into your brain. The rock'n'roll equivalent of a volcano erupting up your arse before a hurricane blows you away, but it's more fun that this description ;)
