Today, I have got to eat some Humble Pie, you see, last night a couple of mates came back for a few beers, and the New Order demon inside me, came out to play. First it was New Order CD's - then onto the Hardcore vids;) Which upset me mate Mark (who wanted to watch Father Ted) so after saying "It's my fuckin house, so we're watching New Order" it led into a bit of an argument, the usual kind of stuff when yer a bit pissed. He started off the proceedings with the killer blow "World in Motion was their only Number 1 - and it was an England song hahahahah" Which always annoys the fuck out of me, the only reply I could come up with, was something along the lines of "Charts are shit anyway, if you go by Number 1's that would make Westlife better than Ocean Colour Scene (his favourite band)....so that stopped him in his tracks:lol: Next came the "They only play Computer music - which anyone can do" so next came the videos of Sunrise and As it is at the Hacienda - which shut him up again. And finally "Blue Monday is shite" - now on this one, I struggled to answer - except for blurting out the obligotory "Best selling 12" of all time mate" to which came the reply "only cos they've released it 18 times" at this stage I was too pissed to be bothered arguing - so Malky said he fuckin liked them and he was happy watching the Video, then me brother John sided with Mark - which led to another argument, so I pissed off to bed in a huff:nonono: So today I have to apologise to John and Mark - which is always a bit hard for me:lol: Does anyone else have these kind of arguments? or is it just me again?

What? Trainspotting and Jazz - I didn't think women where into both of these at the same time mate:lol:

Yes indeed. Back in my schooldays we used to have parties every weekend at someone's house. Me and some mates would always insist(threatening with the use of violence)that our Joy Division and New Order records(yes, those were the record days!)HAD to be played. And most of the time it would end up in discussions about "doom" music(?)and people leaving the party very upset! As it was , most of those parties were being held at the residence of a JD/NO fan, we didn't really care:D.

hmmm...that was some strange kind of parties :)

Never experienced conversations or discussions at parties myself, just exchanging laughter and smiles on the dance floors, ya don't have to say a word, so it's a quite relaxed atmosphere.

So when we're not partying we sit all day long exchanging words via a computer. I'll suppose it's a bit absurd. And The next party will perhaps be at the end of June...

Cheers!!! :clown:

I remember reading in Exit Music about how Thom and Colin from Radiohead used to dress up like New Romantics and play Joy Division records at parties, back in their youth, and Mario's post reminded me of that. I usually find JD can alienate people more than a well-chosen NO dance theme, but my Ozzy Osbourne-loving friend admitted JD were pretty good after a few tracks off UP.

Generally speaking, the music tends to be quite loud at discos and parties to combine discussing and dancing at the same time, you either dance or you discuss, but of course when N.O. (if you're a fan)surprisingly is to be heard from the loudspeakers it keeps the energy going for an extra hour or so, all depending which party or which disco you go to... the last time out it was Röyksopp a week ago....before that Faithless btw...it's only music, but why not, I think to myself, go out once in awhile..., the computer seems quite doomy when you compare? :)

My friends all think new order are crap apart from one who has best of and rest of. I don't care to be honest. They have to put up with me blasting out crystal at 900 decibels so f**k 'em! :)

:D I like your style Frode! Let's try if i can express myself a bit better...i didn't mean parties as in parties:lol: It was mostly coming together with a bunch of people at somebodys place, preferably when their parents went out for a weekend so we could all get drunk and stoned and play loud music all night long. And i must admit that i have very good memories about those nights. Imagine, being 14/15 years old and sitting in some garage, secretly smoking weed and consuming large amounts of Belgian beer. Most people left, because of our demand for Joy Division, listening to Unkown Pleasures or Closer till early morning, then walk through empty streets, it's foggy and we're singing Decades outloud, waking up angry citizens...Wow, i am getting carried away now, but you see what i mean Frode?:smoking::cool2:

I clicked into this thread excitedly expecting it to be all about our mighty Seventies rock supergroup legends Humble Pie......well, how sadly wrong I was then......serves me right for being so naive and presumptuous. I wont do it again in a hurry....

Re SUPERMARIO:

After kind of sweaty afrobeat-dancing to Leftfield for one hour

"the pressure gotta stop the future gotta rock"

yeah, see what ya mean, now, recognize that situation from thirty years ago or so. Dancing is great and Leftfield gives great contentment and leaves me with a happy feelig, on the other hand, (for me, reaching contact through music, not via the internet ), it's kind of difficult writing in a upmoody moment...... through the net it's sometimes "be nice to someone, and then some would perhaps take that as an insult"

By the way, it's nice to see the good atmosphere, this day of the 12 of January, the "London Mk 2" among other threads, reminds me of summer and the "Auditorium disco", Alanya :)

  • free from animosity and hostile argueing.

Cheers!

Yeppirs, Shuggy, I have arguments like that all the time. My girlfriend is more into top 40 crap and though she like's some of my stuff we have had plenty of fights about music in the car and etc. I don't know anyone personally who's into New Order the way I am or the way people are on this board. That's why I enjoy the board, that I share a love for a band with everyone here. And I don't think I would enjoy New Order as much if they supersaturated MTV and radio. I know it's hard to enjoy a band so much and have other people not get it. But that's music, there's no right or wrong to it, even if you enjoy listening to Britany Spears! :\puke: When I make it back to Scotland it would be great to hang out and listen to Barney et al.

BTW- New Order made number three in the Rolling Stone critics' picks for most welcome comeback.

Stay Strong my brother!

Cheers dude;) Comforting words indeed - I am hungover again - but at least last night I was able to enjoy New Order in peace, I left a party early cos they were playing Dance/Trance shite - so instead of complaining I just got up and got me coat:lol: I am learning!!

actually...very soon, we shall be the only ones left....starting yesterday...when I am introduced to someone, the first thing I ask them is if they like New Order...if they say no, they are shot on sight...so I'm guessing that if I can move around the world a tad...that in another 43.7 years, I should have all of the non-believers eliminated....

:violent:

this made me think of Marty....:hi: if you see this!!!!

Hey Shug and Jeff,

So Martin's gone for good? I've barely been able to check in here for the last three weeks or so, I've been traveling. What's going on or should I just drop it? I've read some of the threads but I think I've missed some new developments.

Is it safe to go back in the water?

Iain

As long as you profess to be a fan of the order it is indeed safe...

actually...everything is calm now...I guess we should give the all clear signal....

and we have heard that the order is supposedly on their way to America...

so I guess there's Good Times Around the Corner!!!

Marty may be back - but I wouldn't count yer chickens - that is of course, unless yer a famer, who owns some chickens:nonono: They get worse (believe me!) He's currently enjoying himself elsewhere for now, but whenever I get round to speaking to him - I always tell im to hurry back:nod: So never say never as someone once said;)

Well, she did sweat a lot, but she most certainly did not move around in such an erotic way that the lyrics would be enhanced. It was just one of those bad nights out that seemed to drag on forever.

That's a great description BTW. That's probably how that Longo guy (the one who killed his baby kids and wife and dumped them in the ocean, and was just caught in Mexico) will be acting once he gets to the big house. What a loser! :headoff:
