I've tried phoning but the office (which IS the Sun's office) is now closed. Didn't consider this urgent enough to phone the duty editor's number given. Factually : Hooky was on his way to the Airport in Manchester last April, and whilst doing 40mph on the outside lane, without any drink in him, he hit an Irish Builder from County Clare, who tragically died. Hooky and his partner stopped on the roadside and brought the lad to hospital.

Since then, and because the legal case is ongoing, Hooky hasn’t contacted the family. A spokesman for (as the Sun put it) “NewOrder guitarist” Hooky said that he would like to contact them when it all clears up. This “aside” was left to the last paragraph of the last page of the article, after they had done a hatchet job on Hookys character.

The builders family are still clearly greeving – there is a bit of an interview with the lads uncle, who say noone sleeps in his bedroom, etc. It is very tragic, the lad couldn’t be more than 30 years old. His family are obviously in a bad state and were obviously screwed over by some spineless c—t excuse of a reporter and had their picture splashed over the front page. The uncle said he would like it if Hooky sent along a card, and as a result Murdochs goons decided it would be a good story to run on the front page.

If Hooky is guilty of anything its climate crime. Unless he lives on the side of a mountain, he should consider buying a motor with a better miles-per-gallon count.

In short: a tragic episode for the lad and his family. Hooky didn’t do anything wrong, and Im sure (in spite of his innocence) feels very bad about all this. It’s the kind of accident that could happen to anyone who drives on a Motorway.

None of this will stop the Sun running it in between soft porn and Richard Littlejohn articles.

why am I not surprised that the Sun is blowing this out of all proportions ! nothing better to do ?! sorry for the lad's family, but that's life and they're just being used by the newspaper. it would never have had even a part of 3 pages had it not been someone famous behind the wheel

There is nothing more to say on the subject than what I said. I went downstairs and read the Sun. believe me : that was a big enough deal.

The article and what happened doesnt warrent any more attention. I dont know what was said by Anton at the start of this thread (and am mightly envious of that Closer), but if you leave my post up, it explains all of what the article says.

There is a picture of a man at the graveside on the cover.

I can assure the moderators that the article is true, the incident happened, and that what I said about it is all thatt really needs to be said.

A tragedy for the family of the dead Man, and an unfounded assault on Hookys character by the SUN.

This is a personal matter, and I dont think any of us should give it too much time. I feel sorry for Peter. Another victim of the curse of the redtops.

If this is true, and the court case is ongoing, it's a bit flippant to start contrasting it with 'climate crime'.
