These topics depress me

I find it sad that a good third of the topics being posted here are all topics related to New Order's demise: Which is the last great NO song, Which album sucks the least, Why do NO suck now, and how many more albums til NO hangs it up and we're forced to listen to reconcile our lives to old age?

Yes, I am new to this message board just as I am new to NO - No, I don't know every Joy Division and NO lyric or riff - but I'm not so jaded to music that I can't recognize talent when I hear it or a good song from a bad song. No, NO aren't the Beatles churning out hit after hit, but for what it's worth, they don't suck now anymore than they ever may have in the past when so many of you became fans, and who cares when they hang it up? They've served their time since the late 70s. Not many bands can boast of that - and still come out sounding fresh and new with every album.

Let's all build a time travel machine. Go back to say, 1985, and take the technology of the internet with us, and Nick can back up all the NOOL files, so we can have a small network and NOOL running in 1985. Then let's discuss about New Order, there would be a lot of great discusssions wouldn't there. Oh yes, the good old days of the 80's. Shit! Just wish I was there. 2000 sucks, and 2005, what a load of shit... What a strange world... and isn't this all very odd coming from an 18 year old. Yes it is indeed.

I have to say, there has been a fatalistic trend in the DR pub lately. Which I think is understandable when you consider the amount of once-greats who now couldn't string together a good album if you lead them to it, but NO aren't over yet. It's just that, as they get older and less likely to produce masterpieces (though not "never will", because I think GR will find a cult audience in ten years for sure), it's tempting to look back on the days when they couldn't go wrong (except for Shellshock).

Just ignore us old-timers when we talk about "the good ole days". Wait...did I just say I was old? I mean, ignore "the old-timers", cause I ain't one of them. I'm young and I still have my health! (falls dead of massive heart attack from eating too many microwavable pizzas)

Shellshock was great - wish everyone would stop knocking that and subculture, although if you want to knock state of the nation that's fine...

Yes, there has been a lot of negative NOOLing of late, not happy with a lot of it myself, although i'm partly responsible with the when will NO call it a day thread...

We should all try to be a bit more positive i reckon and if we can't be positive try to offer constructive criticism rather than outright hatred.

I dont think they suck now, they sucked in 93, Movement sucked compared to Brotherhood, Krafty (2005) is worth a 100 sub-cultures (1985),Its just high's and low's and new order are one of the only band's of their genre that are still capable of turning out good music and long may it continue

Couldn't agree more; I don't like seeing so much negativity around here. It's as if some people actually want NO to end soon - I'm sure that's far from the truth but you wouldn't always think it. Can we please stop it now and concentrate on being positive?

it's safe to say there are few sycophants who post regularly on this site, but better to offer up constructive criticism than become a human lemmiwinks!
