Has Barney always hated touring America? While it's a matter of wanting to stay home with family/yacht now, it wasn't so much so in the past. If he has always hated America, could it have something to do with the fact that Ian was so apprehensive about the upcoming American tour that it became yet another reason to top himself? Postponing their first trip to America due to a suicide in the band perhaps gave Barney the willies over touring America at all in the future.

Barney loved touring America, what with the best drugs in NY and all the electro scene known through Baker, and then Detroit etc. Maybe his first truly traumatic experience was the 1989 tour, but he knows the excesses are his fault. I think he still likes America, it's just he doesn't want to tour much at all, anywhere. The English mates weren't comparatively luckier, just a few festivals. No Manchester show... It was a small festival tour, with the lucky difference that it focused on filling the gaps in their gigography in Europe, like in Italy where they hadn't played for 19 years... from what I've read it's now considered a major event of the year, many people, even not proper fans, have been amazed by their comeback on such a form at this age.
America: Love It Or Leave It 
I doubt Barney "hates" America, I'm just guessing that as a musician who has spent odds-on thirty years on the road at various times, he's a bit sick of the road in general. 
I think now he's eaten plenty of burgers he fits in better in the states, he was probably scared of being crushed before, with being a skinny dwarf!
