Well, I interpret it as something like : the sum up of 30 years of career can be contained in one DVD the same way as the sum up of one's life can be contained in a few boxes.

I'll buy it, but over half the stuff in this collection is unwatchable and pretty embarrassing ...not exactly something to be proud of

Questions for Howard Wakefield (should he be around):

1)Why change the DVD typeface from that used on 316 and 511 (Ive heard it called "incised")? 2)Is there a waste painting inside? 3)Will there be a booklet, and if so, will it be as good and as big as the BOXSETS which I think looked great? 4)Is PSA involved in the DVD menu graphics (or do you venture into motion graphics at all) ? 5)Is it a slipcase ? 6)Was Bernard involved in this (in the same way he was for GR and WFTSC)? 7)Is it going to be the same box for all regions, or (like 511) will there be slight variations?

It's just looking like my place with more space in it !!!

darn I was thinking of something like this......

for years NO was an enigma...a closed up warehouse. Factory was the ultimate indie label and NO the ultimate indie band. They rarely did interviews, almost never appeared i their own videos. the band was mysterious. In the past few years NO has seemed more visible-more open-more interviews & lots of bands singing their praises. NO seems omnipresent....

so the point??? There is supposed to be one?

it seems many of the secrets & toys in the attics have been revealed-so of course we will soon find out what in the box!

I pre-ordered my copy from Amazon.ca. you will get your 5% from me I cant believe the Canadian dvd is alot cheaper then the US copy. And its even coming from the US, which is the funny part! I bet it will be cheaper for someone in the US to order it from Canada!

Its a Fourier Transform of the electromagnetic signal emmitted by a dying star. The band picked it out of a book (black on white), Saville reversed the (non) colours, laid it out, and picked some expensive paper.

In the MOJO article on NO/JD, there was an interview with PETER SAVILLE in which he said he had little to do with GR or WFTSC. He left it to his assistants and BERNARD. HOWARD WAKEFIELD who works in SAVILLE ASSOCIATES came on these boards around the time of WFTSC and answered any stupid questions we had.

Saville said that he is no longer interested in pop-sleeves, and that he is too old/has moved on. He also said that a recent cover was turned down by the band. Bernard, it seems, still fancies himself as a bit of a graphic designer.

Perhaps this is a photo of Phil's stuff and the band thought this was the easiest way to break it to him that Gillian's coming back.

as i mentioned in my previous post. the image used on the cover is from the new version of the ceremony video. michael shamberg, who produced the video, organized a small viewing of the ceremony and temptation videos in paris about a month ago. they are both great by the way.

It's depressing, has none of the beauty of some of Saville's earlier moments and isn't going to catch eyes.

Is that the message the band really want to convey?

I doubt they had any input into approving the sleeve.

I quite like it actually. Simple, basic, but nice overall. Don't see why some of the fuss about it, i don't find it so very different from sleeves like 'Movement' or 'EGG'... Well...

I presume its to do with the fact that its still put together by his associates. Im sure he has some role in the design, but not much.

I should also think that the band are keen to keep up appearances. In certain circles, (esp amongst the hardcore) it would be considered sacrilege to have no Saville involvement. I think it says more about the present priorities of the band than it does about Peter Saville. After all, they are the multi million selling pop group, releasing 2 retrospectives for every album at this stage - He , it is said, is living on a mattress in the back of his studio.

I like it but I would have LOVED if they used the NewOrderStory cover..that bring back so much memories..I still have the VHS tape and will keep watching it.

Now only if they could package a Pumped Full of Drugs & Academy DVD!!!!

I heard this guy, jude law, may portray ian curtis in the new joy divison biopic. Bit of a cad, though.

firstly, i chose the member name as a joke last year. and as you can see i do not post a lot. so i've been too lazy to change it.

ceremony video: really beautiful, and i guess a comment on homelessness. there is a guy inside the box, who slowly reveals himself. he's wearing an addidas track jacket over a long transparent plastic raincoat. later shots are him dancing in the street and in some sort of tunnel. shot in shanghai. gorgeous light and colors.

temptation video: shot in paris, black and white. mostly following a girl in the streets, also a very cute scene where she steals the ceremony 12 inch in a record store, and finishes with her dancing in an apartment.

the band is not shown in either video.

NAAH! He would be a bad choice as much as I liked him in A.I. If anyone got round to seeing BATMAN BEGINS,I reckon Cillian Murphy (The Scarecrow) would make a good choice.He may not have Ian's forehead,but he's got the eyes and the presence..and he's a JD fan as well.

Going back to the DVD,I like it.It just says to me "everything but the kitchen sink"!
