Bob Mould and New Order?

I just recently picked up the new Bob Mould album 'Body of Song' and noticed that the third track 'Paralyzed' bears some close similarities to NO's 'Turn', particularly in the chord progressions. Has anyone else noticed this?

I also noticed Bob has added Richard Morel to his live band on keyboards (another NO link), as well as Brendan Canty, drummer from the mighty Fugazi

Are there any other fellow NO fans who enjoy Bob's solo work? I know there are a few Huskers fans lurking, but I have really loved most of Bob's solo stuff too... CTB

I've got all his solo stuff (as I have Grant's) - will be seeing him in early September. Most of the solo stuff was bought out of this often midguided belief that he would recapture the magic that he never quite had without Grant - only Modulate really lived up to my expectation. He's not as high on my list of must-see acts these days, I must say.

I've got 'Beaster' by 'Sugar'... that was Bob Mould wasn't it?- a fantastic album!!!

one major difference:

new order are a manchester band.

bob mould has no idea where he's from: minneapolis, austin, DC....

i got into his material with sugar's copper blue (one of my favourite albums of all time), although i'd flirted with his solo work before that. only then did i start listening to husker du. i don't hear much similarity between any of bob mould's work and new order--then again, i haven't heard his new album.

but considering bob is al jarvis' long-lost brother there might be some influence through osmosis.

Two out of three Husker Du members were gay.

The only thing I would say to this is that the Huskers were often absolutely appalling live - yes there was a lot of noise and energy, but the sound was dreaful bordering on the unrecognisable at even the best shows, and frequently the whole thing degenerated into a mess.

Actually, I would say one more thing. Bob has never quite been able to recreate the magic he made in partnership with Grant - they've both spent far too long either wallowing lyrically or blaming each other for the problems that wrecked the band, and the two songwriting halves are no way equal to the sum.

Never saw them live but I like the Husker Du and Sugar and some of his solo stuff. He does a lot of dance dj nights in Washington DC recently and plays a bit of JD if I recall.

Are they called Husker Du ? Sorry , Never heard of them.

I only have the "Metal Circus" ep from his Husker days (which is great fun to scare the neighbors with), I almost picked up Zen Arcade a couple of days ago, but opted for the Belle and Sebastian "Wrapped up In Books" single. So I really have no comment on this, sorry for wasting everyone's time :D

OK Chris, point taken - but for the record I didn't say he ripped them off, just that the songs sound similar, coincidentally as far as I'm concerned. Good to know good taste can be found here though!
