Not surprising when you consider Hook slapped it together in a rush - he said the band would like to do a song for her properly if they weren't so busy with their New order commitments.

Coorect, also Barney admits the song is shit, a disappointment, disgrace to their work. She just fucked up their music. I dont think New order would be pleased to this.

Hooky has sinced clarified things: Stefani met them at an awards show and cleared the air, while the band accepted that their busy schedule (by their standards) meant they couldn't do as thorough a job as they would have liked.
True, you can barely make out Baney's vocals, and Steve was quite bitter about his drums not being used. He said something to the effect of : that after 25 years as a musician he might know how put a song together.
Apparently Hookey has forgiven her, but then again you can clearly hear his bass.
Nevertheless, it's a good thing it's going to be released.
Let's be honest here, it's the 2nd best track on that album!
Hooky might recycle his bassline once again, but who cares.. moments of genius can be recycled IMHO, it's better that way than sampling.
I don't think the song will be released. It will be her 5th single off an album. I've never heard of an album producing five singles. Even from major top-40 acts like Linkin Park and Avril lavigne. Both are way bigger than stefani is and have sold way more records than LAMB. 4 singles was the max.
Plus it is way too soon. I don't even think it's been two months since the release of the BANANA song, and she released Cool as the 4th single about three weeks ago.
...btw, in case u guys didnt kno - THE REAL THING was the B-side to Gewn's first single.....I dont think its gonna be released again.....
It would be fantastic if this was reworked and released, although I can't see it...

at the 'Brit' music awards in the UK , Stefani publicly included NO in the list of people she thanked when she won best album (or best female artist - i cant remember which)
I do like Real thing.It´s not that bad. A little more of the bass guitar would be the "Real thing"

i only heard the song recently and thats all it is is a BLT Ripoff, why not just cover the Original?

Wasn't that happy with L.A.M.B. when I first bought it, but now it's one of my fave albums for 2005. Give it a few listens....

FOR Gwen Stefani, there was a point where she realised her solo career had gone way into the stratosphere. It wasn't selling millions of albums, hitting No.1 in the US or even having paparazzi stalking her.
It was when she said she wanted her new merchandise line to include banana-scented erasers. And everyone agreed. Her solo career has gone better than anyone could have imagined. She talks of flicking through a music industry magazine and noticing her solo album Love Angel Music Baby was No.5 in the US.
"And this is eight months after it was released ... This record is crazy."
Plenty has been written about Stefani pushing herself creatively on her solo debut; a multi-producer, multi-risk record that she actually pulled off.
"To work with the people I worked with and put myself in that vulnerable position as a songwriter and collaborate with some talented people and still be free is really challenging. That was the hard part," Stefani explains.
Advertisement: "Everything after that is fun, all the visuals for me are the reward after the hard work of making the music. But I never knew it'd be so well received. "I knew it was an easy, upbeat album, that even if you hated me you couldn't help but like some of the songs, because they were meant to be these addictive songs.
That was the goal, to make a record where picking the singles would be a big issue because every song could be a single."
The fourth single, Cool, has been chosen by Stefani to show the more laidback aspects of the record. She also wants her New Order pastiche, The Real Thing, to be a single. They would follow on from the genre-skipping singles to date - What You Waiting For, Rich Girl (another collaboration with hip hop hitmaker Dr Dre and rapper Eve) and Hollaback Girl, whose line, "This s-- is bananas" inspired the fruit-scented stationery. Each song has opened Stefani to a new, wider - and younger - audience.
She's now sharing stages with the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff.
"I've been in this business for 18 years; they're 18," Stefani reflects.
"But you can't compare someone on their first album as an 18-year-old to an 18-year career.
"It feels really good to get to a point where you have a history, and no matter what people say about you they can't erase your history. That's what I did and that's why I've ended up here."
And Stefani is enjoying the view from here. As well as the music, she's finished her sixth collection in her L.A.M.B. (Love Angel Music Baby) fashion line and has now launched Harajuku Lovers through her website. Yet more fashion and accessories, including that banana eraser.
It's the situation of doing whatever the hell she wants that Stefani is relishing.
"It's actually my favourite part of success, not that I'm grateful for everything about it, but to be creative and convince everyone around me my ideas are good ideas, there's nothing better than that."
Love Angel Music Baby was such an extended creative process that Stefani has enough for several albums.
She's compiling the best of the unreleased songs and has plans to release them as a companion album at Christmas. One song, Wonderful Life for Him, features Depeche Mode's Martin Gore on guitar. It's especially poignant, as the song was written about the first boy Stefani ever kissed, who has since died.
"He was a huge Depeche Mode fan," she says. "He actually turned me onto them. I was really into Madness. I was, like, 'Depeche Mode? That's electronic weirdo music'. My friend would not believe Martin Gore is playing on this song I wrote him."
Last month Stefani hooked up with Pharrell Williams again, to work on more songs for the Christmas album. They first met when No Doubt worked with the Neptunes on Hella Good.
"That was the first time we'd worked outside the group with songwriters, and it was really awkward. That's what defines us as a band, writing, so it was a brave and crazy experiment, It was uncomfortable in the studio, but Hella Good has become one of our staple songs," says Stefani.
After Pharrell, she is doing more solo writing with No Doubt bandmate Tony Kanal, just for fun.
The new single, Cool, is yet another lyrical exploration of her relationship with Kanal. He was one of her first boyfriends and their break-up inspired No Doubt's classic ballad Don't Speak. Since then they've become close friends and Kanal co-wrote several of her solo songs.
No Doubt get reactivated from January, with an album expected late next year. "I did miss the band at the beginning," Stefani says. "It was weird to do interviews or play shows without them, but I'm around Tony so much I don't feel totally away from them.
"It'll be exciting to see how we've all grown separately and what happens when we get back together."
Stefani, 34, is also singing on husband, and ex-Bush frontman, Gavin Rossdale's new project Institute and was the first to admit What You Waiting For 's ticking clock was as biological as it was time-keeping, reminding her that she had to start thinking about motherhood.
"I've been wanting to have a kid for a long time," she says. "But I feel like I'm on a journey and I don't think it's up to me. It will happen when it's meant to be.
"But I never thought any of this would happen ... all of it is crazy."

Lying From You was released to US airplay and as a promotional single at least in the UK and Ireland; as was From The Inside. Right, it may have been 4 mainstream singles but they had 6 releases from it.

what the hell is liberian girl? i totally missed that one.
Actually the producers wanted to release ALL tracks of Bad.. but stopped at that one.

Releasing 5 or 6 tracks from one album was a very 80's thing. Genesis, Fleetwood Mack, Dire Straits, Janet Jackson, Wacko, etc.

I ask, because, in the UK, Gwen is releasing 'Cool' next, which is single no.4 off L.A.M.B.
I'm all for it if gets NO back on the charts, and not just the dance chart. And hopefully she can list is as "featuring New Order" so people would actually know.
The song's okay, yeah it sounds like BLT but so what, everything on her album was supposed to sound like something else anyway. And hell if utter crap like Hollaback Girl can rise up then let's what this could do. God I hate that song.

well dare by the human league had a load od singles off it but i digress. the whole hoo haa between steffani and new order stems from the producer of the track in question. new order had done a load of material for the song and had a lay out as how it would play out but steffanis producer thought better and changed it which upset mr morris the most oddly enough as hes always been the most placid. "you would have thought that 28yrs in the business would have counted for something,but there you go" is just one quote. and thats almost blood rage for mr morris.lol steffanis whole album is a big nod to the eighties and several tracks besides real thing just sound like new order in pop mode. not a bad album at all.

My thoughts exactly. I think she and Pharrell were going for that vibe. I get the feeling the solo record was an exploration of all the things that have interested her or meant something to her in music that she can't touch on within the No Doubt rubric (the same way I suppose Electronic was an outlet for Barney's more electronic leanings etc). The first time I saw the video I thought to myself, they're trying to recreate the "Mickey" vibe in a new guise. It's not a rip off in any real terms beyond the theme. Not sure if you have this in the UK, but cheerleading and marching sh!t is synonomous with High School and College sports in the US and everyone is well versed in it, but there's only been one song (Mickey) that I can recall that was deliberately built in such a way that it could be a cheer (Basil was a choreographer/dancer/actress before she ever considering singing), this song is built like a cheer, exactly like a cheer and I love it.
As for the album, it's hit and miss, but like No Doubt's other stuff, there are plenty of highlights. I don't get the venom I saw directed at her in other threads (much like the grief Corgan over the previous four years, who may be a jerk but is a talented, if annoying, jerk)over the past eight months or so. She and No Doubt focused on creating music that celebrated life, or dealt with personal issues in a usually interesting if not always successful way while always paying mind to their influences (groups like Madness and perhaps the Specials in the UK, and lots of Reggae stuff from Jamaica that came out in their last album release). She's not a true icon in the sense that she'll leave a lasting musical legacy like say New Order, The Smiths, Zeppelin, Beatles or The Who did, but she and No Doubt have been much, much better or more helpful to the cause of music in the US than 90% of the rest of the artists regularly logging top 40 and top 20 hits. Just my opinion.
God I feel like a right heathen!! I've not heard The Real Thing yet!! What I have got though is a cracking mash-up of What You Waiting For and Blue Monday.It's a brilliant mix and I play it most weekends at my pub indie nights.:D
New Order should just cover The Real Thing already. And do it right.

OOOPs, u r rite, Spotty......funny, I swear I saw it somewhere last year when I came across her debut single...and my heart dropped when I noticed the B-side was The Real Thing....I must've been hallucinating......
Michael Jackson's 'Bad' album had 9 singles. You forgot "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" - a U.S. #1 hit and the first single.
I wouldn't rule out more than 4 singles from Gwen's solo debut. "What You Waiting For?" - the first single - only reached #47 (due to a lack of airplay) and this was of course before digital downloads counted toward the Hot 100. Otherwise, I'm sure it would have made the Top 20, at the very least. Since then, her follow ups have done better with "Rich Girl" reaching the Top 5, "Hollaback Girl" reaching #1 (4 weeks), and "Cool" more than likely sailing into the Top 10 in the next week or two (it leaps 19-13 this week).
It's odd to see more than 4 singles from an album nowadays but with the success of "Cool" I wouldn't rule out a 5th (or even 6th single). However, she does have a new project/album coming out around Christmas featuring those songs that didn't make the album, so that may interfere with future singles.
Anyhow, enough ranting for now.
